Dirt blowing out vents and has a bad (musty) odor

1997 Dodge Caravan. When turning on the A/C or just the blower, some dust or dirt will blow out the vents and the air has a musty odor, maybe mold? What and how do I disassemble the air ducts to clean them out?

If you live in a dusty area it is a good idea to use the recirc button on your a/c control head. This will keep the dust to a minimum.
To get rid of the smell you can take a bottle of air freshener and spray it in the heater box air intake that is located just below the windshield on the right hand side of the van. Do this with the a/c on and blowers on high.
If you use recirc as much as possible the dust should slowly work it way out of the system.
If these fixes don't help the dash will have to be removed and a/c evaporator will have to be cleaned or replaced.

Why would my 97 honda civic through out dirt from the vents? Even if i dont have the a/c on.

If you park the car under a tree, it is likely that debris from the tree has fallen down the windshield into the induction cowling for the AC, where it has accumulated and further decayed into a finer dust. When you drive, air is forced through and blows this debris through your vents. You may be able to use a vacuum to either suck or blow the debris out of the induction cowling.

A/c blower doesn't blow very hard

Sometimes, over a period of time, things or dirt and dust have accumujlated on dash and eventually gets blown down the defroster ducts and builds up on ac evaporator while there is moisture on it and the combonation of the two plugs up the evaporator causing a huge lack of air flow at vents. The combination of the two can cause almost cement making it very hard to clean up.I have actually had to replace quite a few evaporators because of the time consuming clean ups.

Heater heats but does not blow. Is the Heater core fused

So the blower motor doesn't work? if so check the link below.

blower motor does not work

Or the blower motor works but there is not very good air flow out the vents? If so it was pretty common on the older GM's for the evap core to leak and cause a bunch of debris/dust/dirt to stick to it causing airflow to slowly be limited as it became covered in dirt. Sometimes you can remove the blower motor and clean the evap core to regain some air flow.

Air conditioner stop blowing in 2002 Dodge Caravan can feel cool air and vents when traveling down highway with ac power on. Just won't blow out

There is as blower motor resistor which is part of what makes your fan blow. So your fan isnt blowing but everything else works right? Thats what I would look @ first.

Blower not working properly

I had a similar problem on a Chrylser vehicle. Check the easy stuff first. Start with the switches. That's where my problem was. I had to take the dash trim off and unscrew the unit and pull it out. The plastic connector on mine was cracked causing it to work intermittently. Good luck on that. Hope this helped you.

Heater blower on96 dodge dakota 4x4 stopped blowing,

If all the fuses are good(the blower fuse is usually a 30 amp) the next culprit could be a blower motor resistor. The resistor is normally under the dash with fat wires on it and screwed into the blower housing. You could have a bad motor also.
