Check the fuel pressure regulator.Pull the vacuum hose off of the fuel regulator and check for fuel inside hose.If you find fuel replace regulator. Also check map sensor for fuel.

The fuel regulator wil be in the fuel rail.Go to www.rockauto.com and look the part up and their will be a picture of it that you can see that will make it easier for you to find there is only a C clip that holds it in place.Do the same for the map sensor it will be mounted on the intake manifold.

My car smells like gas, and the odor gets stronger the longer it sets at an idle. The gas mileage has decreased by 6mpg. The first time it starts for the day the rpm's rev up an dit sounds like you ar

When you smell the strong odor of gasoline and the car runs rough the coolant temperature sensor has failed (no exceptions) The engine is usually slow to start the first time. turn it off and it starts right up next try.

There is a srtrong odor of gasoline or maybe brake fluid whenever i start and run?

Sounds like two different problems.
I would have the engine computer checked for trouble codes and the body computer for ABS codes.
The brake problem could be the master cylinder, the gas smell could be a fuel leak or a problem with the venting system for the gas tank.

I have a 2005 chevy malibu maxx v6. car runs great, no hesitation or stalling, however a intensly strong odor of gasoline suddenly began about 3 wks ago, and is gettin stronger by the day! it Can be...

No service engine light? A loose gas cap will set a light.
You may want to inspect your fuel filler neck and anything close. For a long while its not uncommon for a person to report the fuel odor issue and have it be where some low life cut a filler neck or puntured a tank to steal fuel. But if that were the case there would usually be a service engine or gas cap light as the systems now days monitor pressures so they can detect leaks in the Evap system.

When you mention a smell though under the hood, do you think the smell could be exhaust? I have seen those manifolds crack. or maybe just a leak from a gasket or exhaust donut.

91 Maxima Gasoline odor when I first start the car

If it is running fine, the busted bolt isn't the source of the gasoline smell. The intake manifold has vacuum, so the smell wouldn't be getting out, air would be going in, and a vacuum leak would give you poor idling. The exhaust manifold wouldn't have much raw gasoline smell. But it would have loud noise if the broken bolt were causing an exhaust leak.

Check that the vapor recovery line is not broken or disconnected. The hose connectors get cracked. If that were broken, it would cause a gasoline smell after the car has been sitting, especially if it has been sitting in the sun, heat driving gasoline vapor out of the tank. It is supposed to condense in the vapor canister, but some escapes if the line is broken. If it is broken, driving would **** out the gasoline from the line and the wind would dissipate the smell.

Or it could be a leaking injector. With the injector cover off, engine idling and cool, you can visually look for raw gas around the injectors and injector rail connections.

Hope this helps.

Odor problem when the ac is on!

This could either be a leaky injector or a ruptured fuel line in the engine compartment.

Strong odor of gasoline vapors

do u have a check engine light on? do u overfill the tank? which is to say when the filler nozzle clicks off do u still try to put more fuel in? in any event u most likely have a overloaded carbon canister, pull the canister out and check it for gasoline saturation, the carbon canister is located under the car in a tray near the fuel tank.

Gas odor when at stops sign or parking in garage

I recently had the same problem. It turned out that the fuel regulator on the engine at the left side just above the intake manifold had an intermitent leak. The gas leaking was not always visible so I had the regulator changed and that solved the problem.

you may have a small hole in the exhaust line somewhere (I had one just past the cat converter on my Honda). Have Meineke check it out for you (they'll look for free!)
