If this means that you have no rear air at all, the problem is a cheap resistor that you can replace. Ask a parts house to find the part and show you where it is located. You can do it and it's a cheap, easy fix. If some air is blowing out of other rear vents, then the problem may be a fan and not just the resistor. Air can be blowing out of the front vents like crazy and the problem with the back can be as I described sense front and back have separate resistors.
Their are two places it could be. One is at the window control switch on the drivers door...bottom buttons. Two is at the center dash console on left hand side
on a ford the #1 cyl is on the frt pass side of the engine.the cylinders on that side, from front to rear are 1,2,3,4 and on the driver side is from front to rear are 5,6,7,8 .the rear cylinders are the most fun to get to! good luck.
This is a very common problem with Fords. I have one that was doing this as well. What works for most people is pretty much what you have tried - spraying inside the latch all over with WD40 Until it's coming out the bottom of the door. If this fails to work, the switch probably needs replaced. The switch is located inside the door near the latch. It should be pretty easy to find once you have the door panel off. Look for the wires leading to it.
A new switch is usually very inexpensive, but may have to be purchased through your local Ford dealer.
If you're not comfortable taking the door panel off, a mechanic should be able to do this repair for you in less than an hour of shop time.
I had same problem. What I did was a temporary fix that needs to be repeated once in a while. Here goes. Remove the rear cup holder that is above the rear vent on the passenger side of the vehicle. Take a long Flat Head Screwdriver and try to rotate the white plastic gear clockwise by pushing it on the left side of one of the teeth. You will feel it give and should feel air coming from roof vents instead of bottom vent. It is pretty easy to do but may have to be repeated off and on.
This may be a problem with Ford Expedition in which a class action suit should help resolve. I also had a 2001 and a 1997 expedition which had the same problems. I traded the 1997 in for the 2001 and later bought a replacement arm operator for the rt passenger rear side. i did not get a chance to install due to a recent accident in which I totaled the vehicle--quick fix for me:)
