(1999 pontiac grand prix 3.1L v6) when I try to rev my engine to the max it always stops at 5000 rmp's then it starts over? What could this be? Is it because I have a. Standard edition engine?

No these engines have rev-limiters on them to keep engine from over reving and breaking camshafts and other parts.

it calls for 5W-30 but in those temps, assuming you have a fair amount of miles, use 10W-40 or if you can find it, 5W-50-unless your's is a leaker, use full synthetic too, it is MUCH better for your engine and it can go much longer (over 5000 miles) between changes with no issues.
