Question about 2009 Chevrolet Cobalt

2 Answers

I cannot turn off the 09 chevy cobalt- I tried pusing the plunger as the manual asks, no luck, I also tried turning the steering wheel left and right with brakes on but the car is still on and the key will not unlock to shut off the car or pull out the key. What do you recommend? I need to turn off th car and it's late.

Open hood on right side is fuse box and lift out 40 amp breaker . Just be aware that you can't start the car without the cylinder repaired . Advise to drive the car to repair shop then shut off engine .

Chevy cobalt noise knocking in front end when you turn the steering wheel from left to right. Also knocking noise over bumps.

Hello and welcome. this noise is normally caused by a noisey steering I-shaft. there is a steering shaft that goes in between the steering column and the steering gear. this shaft has a slip joint that becomes noisey. all you need to do is lube the i-shaft with some special lube and you will be good to go

My Chevy Cobalt just worked like an hour ago, and now I can put the key into the ignition, but the key won't turn. The steering wheel is locked, it is stuck in park, the wheels are almost straight, and...

Hi, what you need to do is put the key in the ignition then grab hold of the steering wheel then whilst trying to turn the key you need to turn the steering wheel to the left or right it may be a bit stiff but once its moved it should free the lock, so try turning the wheel to the left and right as hard as you can whilst turning the key doing this should free the steering lock and get it started.

also try putting the key in the ignition the other way round and then give it a try.

let me know if you need further assistance ok

plz rate this solution as i have a whole page of unrated posts, thanks

Chevy Cobalt turn signal issues

There is a plastic piece inside the steering column that will automatically turn the turn signals off when the steering wheel is turned back to 'straight ahead'. This plastic piece can break, and if it does, they can only be turned off manually, as you are doing. I have not worked on anything as new as your cobalt to repair this, but on older cars it involves removing the steering wheel and turn signal assembly. You must also deal with the air bag. Don't attempt this repair unless you have a manual to follow to disarm the air bag and properly remove the steering wheel and other components.

Key won't come out of the ignition, even after I press the button in the steering column

Your steering wheel is turned to hard to left or right, lightly turn away from the left or right to remove key. if not shake steering wheel like mad to the left and right and turn key and remove.
