Question about 2003 Chevrolet Suburban 1500

3 Answers

They change an sensor on my 2003 suburban 1500 and this fixed the check engine light status. However they must of done something or not hooked something back up, since now the check engine light does not come on when started, and thus has failed an emmissions test. Is there anything I can check before taking it back to the dealer?

When you turn the key 'on' the Check Engine Light is supposed to illuminate-that is also a check for the system-they probably removed the CEL bulb or the fuse for it-not good, and easy enough to verify-if so I would register a complaint to any state agency that regulates auto repair or emission stations. A disabled CEL will not in and of itself cause a failure in most states, but a code will-You will need to have the car scanned to see what the code is, and then come back on here with the actual code for help.

What state are you in sounds like vegas. But maybe they couldnt fix it so they removed the bulb. Pop cluster out and check bulb also hook scanner up and check for codes

Ok when thay did your repairs thay also cleared all of you codes to turn off the check engine light which also reset all of your emission status and you have to drive the vehicle for a few days so that the ECM retest your emission system , when that is done then you can go back to do you inspection

Failed CA smog test "MIL/Check Engine Light", computer data wiped

No this is not right. If you remove the battery everything resets anyways. If they are talking about relearn procedure, it should only require 50 miles. But if the light is on than either they did something wrong, created another problem, or there was already another one existing. Have the code read and let me know what it is. I'm in Ca too and used to prep european cars for smog, so I do know what I'm looking for. How did the rest do? What were the readings(if possible)?

Parking break light is on & Chimming When P. Break is released

On your parking brake assembly is a single wire switch. You can unplug it, but you will have to remember not to drive with it set. To replace the switch the whole assembly will have to come out. The switch is about $20 and labor should run about two hours. Good Luck

It might fix the problem but you may also have a shift sensor that is starting to go bad as well take you suburban to autozone or an o'reillys if you have one of those auto parts stores near you and they can do a scan on all the sensors to tell you if your vehicle is showing any problems with any of your sensors I hope this helps you out.
