Question about 2004 Pontiac Grand Am

1 Answer

I am having issues with my 04 Grand Am GT cruise control . Sometimes it will work and sometimes it will not. When you are driving with the cruise on it will just disengage by it self for no reason. Sometimes you can reset it and it will go for several miles before it does it again and sometimes it will not last a short distance or may not reset at all. Besides the servo mounted under the hood, the switches on the steering wheel and the switch on the brake pedal, are there any other components in the system? Thanks Dennis

2005 ford freestar. sometimes the cruise works sometimes it doesn't

Could be any number of issues? Can you check for applicable trouble codes, relating to cruise control? Some of the national brand autostores will check codes for free.
With intermittent issues, have to do testing when problem is ongoing, or you can't find anything. Do you want to check voltage and ground circuit for your cruise control, meaning, check wire circuits using wiring diagrams?
Intermittent issues can be a pain to track.

Cruise control not working

Check cruise control cable under hood is tight enough to pull throttle arm.
Check brake pedal . see if wires to cruise control are still attached to switch on brake pedal.
Check magnets are still on drive shaft if rear wheel drive.
Check hall effect transducer is still in place to dedect magnets spinning on drive shaft.
Check Vacuum tubing is ok on cruise control it pulls the cable in and out .
Check if ignition sensing that wire is connected that senses ignition pulses ( front wheel Drive)
Check if a speed sender device is used on speedo cable to create pulse (front wheel drive ) sometimes used to sense speed on some cruise controls.
Check wiring around plugs and sockets under bonnet.

02 TB, cruise control works intermittently, now wipers wont come on

Debbie, this sounds to me to be the control arm that turns your wipers on and also has the cruise control operation also on the lever, When this wears out you can have weird symptoms, sometimes the wipers will work and the cruise wont and sometimes the other way around. On the starting issue, it sounds like the ignition switch on the column is worn out sometimes making contact and sometimes not. If the vehicle has a ton of miles on it these plastic parts wear out and need replacing.

Why won't the cruise control button light up?

One thing that may cause this is a bad tail/brake light socket or bulb, a loose conection, or bad ground.

Cruise Control Faulty.

Well i can tell you it will not be possible to refer you to a mechanic without knowing where you live. The cruise control issue is also a tough one, if the dealer couldn't figure it out, that's pretty bad. i might initially guess a vacuum leak, but the whole cruise control unit might just need to be replaced.

Cruise Control

You should know that cruise control is meant to be used when you drive beyond 60 mph.

It might be that your car is set to automatically switch it off if you drive below specification.

Not an issue at all.

Try checking your fuses, you may have a blown one. If the problem reoccurs, or it isn't the fuse, then you more than likely have a short somewhere, where you will need to spend up to several hours with a test light.
Good Luck!
