Replace the gas cap, and remove negative battery cable for a few minutes, and it should be ok. unless you have a leak in the system. have a good one !

More then likely its the Canister Purge Solenoid. you can find it online at www.autozone.com the part number is PV140. And to replace it on blazer you have to remove the spare tire. Alot of people don't know where this part is so I hope this helps you and good luck.

SOURCE: obd code p0440 for check engine light on 2000 Toyota Corolla

With a P0440 OBD-II trouble code, diagnosis can be tricky at times. Here are some things to try:

  • Remove and reinstall the gas cap, clear the code, and drive for a day and see if the codes come back.
  • Inspect the EVAP system for cuts/holes in tubes/hoses
  • Inspect for damaged or disconnected hoses around the Evap purge solenoid
  • Check and/or replace the sensor
  • Check and/or replace the purge valve
  • Have a professional use a smoke machine to detect leaks
Sincerely,

JC

The code can be found in a repair manual u can look it up.that`s probly what made your check engine light come on.the code most likely is a sensor that needs to be replaced.the switch on your temp dial is just possibly a bad switch.I don`t think the two r connected at all.

P0440 is a large evap leak, so it should be pretty obviuos. first check if the vent valve is closing. then check when the purge valve is closed that its not leaking. He needs to COMMAND the vent valve closed and then smoke it. He should be able to command purge and close the vent valve, then turn off the purge and watch the vacuum level to know if its fixed or not.

Obd code p0440 for check engine light on 2000 Toyota Corolla

p0440 code means that the evap system has a leak. This could be caused by a bad or improperly installed gas cap. Either that or the purge solenoid has failed or the canister is plugged and not working properly.
