First find your owners manual, it will have specifc instructions. generally speaking you access the rear of the light assembly, pull the sockets out to change the bulbs. examine the electrical connections of the bulb closely and replace with the exact same bulb. there are two sockets in there which look the same but take entirely different bulbs.

The R & L brake lights don't work, but the center brake light (above the lift gate) does. Have replaced bulbs and also cleaned contacts - no improvement. What next?

Need year/make /model for more help. The brake lights run through the signal light switch if the signal lights flash red instead of yellow. If they flash red, suspect a faulty signal switch

Tip

Both Lower Brake Lights Not Working

Check Brake Light Bulbs: All cars have three brake light bulbs that create the brake light illumination affect. If the lower two bulbs fail no lower brake light operation will occur. I know what you're thinking, you might say two brake lights at once? But in reality one brake light went out at a time and you did not notice. People only tend to notice something when they almost run into the back of your car to help persuade them to inform you the brake lights aren't working. Remove either of the brake light bulbs to confirm the bulb is ok or burned. After the bulb has been removed inspect the filament and replace if failed. If the brake light bulbs are ok continue to the next step.

Checking the Turn Signal Switch: Most American cars are designed to have the brake light switch wiring intergraded into the turn signal switch. Because the brake light bulb and the turn signal bulb are one and the same the turn signal switch interrupts the brake light circuit and installs the blinker signal circuit when the turn signal switch is activated. If this switch fails it will not allow the brake light signal through to the brake light wiring. To test for this condition a car repair manual is needed to test incoming and outgoing electrical current. If brake light switch power is present at the turn signal switch but not at any outgoing brake light wires the turn signal switch has probably failed.

07 Impala rear driver side brake light and turn signal does not work, but when I checked the bulb it was working just not when I press the brake. The left turn signal on the dash also blinks rapidly.

Sounds like a possible bad ground connection.
Make sure the contacts for the bulb are clean.
Make sure the cround connection is not corroded.

2003 dodge caravan. Driverside park lamp and tail light don't work. Turn signals work. Brake light works.

replace bulb, park and tail is same bulb, if bulb is good just clean re install, you will actually see if the filament is broken or burned

Driverside back turning signal will not work, replaced all bulbs fuse tested ok, the passenger side these are both rear works

Your Questions is Confusing...

Your LEFT REAR is not working your RIGHT REAR is working? Either you have a Bulb that is Bad, Bulb Socket that is not working, or you have a GROUND Problem..

You need to also see if the TURN SIGNAL is working on the LEFT. If NOTHING is working then you know it is a Ground Issue. IF the BRAKE LIGHTS WORK and the Turn Signal does not, then it is the BULB.

2004 jeep grand cherokee driverside head lamp- low beam bulb needs to be replaced. How is this task performed?

That does not look like a low beam lsamp. It looks like a parking and turn signal lamp. The low and high beams are together in the main top light. To change the parking light bulb open your hood and look behind the light system for a cover over the bulbs. That should be where you can yurn out a plastic fitting that houses the bulb.

Left rear turn signal and brake light not working. fuse is good, bulb is good. back-up lights work.

I have a 2007 Chevy Express with the same problem. Just happened. Brake and turn signal not working on left side. Fuses good, bulbs good (dual element lamp, turn signal and break are same element) running lights work (other element) Relay blinks fast and not getting voltage at light for blinker or brake. Is there something else in the circuit I need to check. Took it to an ASE mechanic and he couldn't or didn't want to fix it. THANKS Let you know if I fix it tomorrow.
