Question about Pontiac 6000

1 Answer

87 pontiac 6000 stalls out and wont restart for a period of time. I was told to replace the crank shaft sensor. But I have repaced the fuel pump and fuel filters plus I replaced 2 other sensors on it and the problem continues. I am sick of sticking money into this car and still haveing the same problem. What could it be and how do I find out if whatever it is realy is bad and needs relaceing?

Is the check engine light on !! if so scan it for the problem code to find out what area to start at. but it does sound like a bad crank sensor. here are the symtoms of a bad crank sensor,--- shuts off while driving down road and wont start for at least 10 minutes and also. timing will be out of sync. more than likely engine will not start. ( engine backfire )or irregular RPMS. if vehicle starts at all, it controls timing and sends info to pcm. no spark or pulse at injectors. have a good day !!

Not CAM or Crank angle sensor.. Try check supply fuel line pressure n spark plug n ignition coil output.. the ignition coil output should be blue spark n spark jump at least half inch.. But be careful coz its hi tension..

Unless the return line is somehow pinched off ,you can't ,not sure if this is the TBI 4 cyl. or a v-6 .either way at wide open throttle there should be NO fuel. If there is at WOT possibly TPS

My 98 sunfire starts then stalls after 2 minutes then every time i start it it stalls sooner i replaced the fuel pump and filter no codes are showing any ideas

This is most likely your crank position sensor.... it sits behind your harmonic balancer and tells the PCM what position the crank shaft is at at all times. These sensors aare around 30 dollars at a local parts shop but you will need a pulley puller and a good impact wrench to remove the balancer

Car starts then after few minutes will shut off and stall out

its possible the cam sensor or the crank shaft position sensor maybe broken or coming apart. the cam sensor is part of the timing chain.

Crank position sensor bad?
Are you sure the fuel pump is working? Might be the sending unit in the fuel pump that is bad. Clogged lines, clogged fuel injectors, clogged fuel filter, all things that could be checked.
