This is somewhat a difficult procedure. to work on this, you must lift the vehicle. The water pump is located on the front part of the engine, which can only be accessed from beneath the vehicle. A unique accessory drive shaft must be removed to access the water pump and thermostat!! This is about a 4-5hr labor!!

If the coolant and thermostat is over 2 year old then it is time to do a coolant flush to get all the deposit out.

After flush fill the coolant reserve tank slowly. I recommend put the car on an oil change ramp to prevent air pocket.

I replaced my waterpump and all gaskets in the housing. now the temp gauge on the DIC jumps high and low then dissappears and my service light came on...whats the deal?

once you have changed the water pump you refill the radiator to the neck and and run the car with the fan on and wait till the themostat will know this because the antifreeze level in the radiator will drop, let run and refill radiator and replace the cap.fill the overflow bottle to the full mark. on some models you have a bleeder on top of the engine to bleed the system. i would also pressure test the radiator cap or replace it as this is not exspensive but a vital part.

Overheating, changed waterpump new themostat put anti-freeze, leaks out don't know where it goes. It's not on the ground. Help!

chances are you blew your headgasket, an when the antifreeze flows through the internals of the engine it leaks into the cylinders an burns up on the combustion stroke, unfortunatly this is most the time a costly fix

I have white smoke coming out from the exhaust of my audi a6 2003 and the coolant tank is empty

Unfortunately you probably have a blown headgasket. You should not drive the car like this as it will further damage the engine. The parts and labor for this job are not cheap. You may want to phone around and get some quotes. I would ask for prices on the headgasket, themostat, timing belt and waterpump. All these things should be done as part of the job.

Hope this helps,

Car is running hot. Just got new hose put on and radiator flushed and themostat. What is the problem?

Check the availability of morte than one thermostat for your engine. You may have the wrong one in and it's not opening at the lowest setting. Causing the engine to overheat before it will allow the coolant to circulate properly. The other answer lies within the efficiency of your waterpump.
