Hi.

most cigarette sockets are fused at 10 amps and should not be run above this.

on the other hand, most tyre compressors are designed to plug into a cagarette lighter and do not use this amount of power.

without more details the best thin i can suggest is that you find where the fuse is for the socket, get a few spares of the same rating , and try the compressor on it. if the fuse blows, yuou will have to try something else.

Depends on the fuse rating for that circuit-you should be able to find that information in your owners manual, but if you do not have one,m plugging in the compressor and running it will determine if it is rated to rund that load-the fuse will pop, or it won't. 15 amps is not a large draw, you did not list the year and model but most power ports are 20+ amp rated and older cars (with cigarette lighters) were 30 amp.

interior fuse box lower dash drivers side the lid will give the fuse location etc . the rear 'lighter socket ' is usually for 12v auxillary input lead ie tyre compressor , unless it had a lighter in it, don't use this as a lighter socket as will blow fuse , the same may be for the front as most cars i've seen post 2008 dont have cigarette lighter's only 12v AUX sockets . check with your drivers handbook

Cigarette lighter keeps blowing fuse

when the lighter is not pushed in does the fuse still blow? If not get a new plug in bit. Try some other plug in unit (GPS--dash cam--tyre compressor) or anything that uses a plug for the cigarette lighter and see it the fuse still blows.

The cigarette lighter on my 1995 Toyota Corolla does not work. The radio works fine. The problem started after I used an air compressor to inflate my tires. The air compressor attaches to the cigar

On the back side of the lighter there is a fusable link between the incoming power wire and the metal tab that connects power to the lighter. This is a very small wire, bent 90 degrees, between two tabs that are mounted on the same small screw. It looks like the incoming power tab and the power to the lighter would be connected, but they are insulated from each other on the screw. If the fusable link is blown, you will have power at the power connector on the back of the lighter, but no power to the center terminal inside the lighter.

Using cigarette lighter for air pump

It is very likely the cigar lighters circuits wiring sizes are not suitable for the amp draw of the compressor, i suggest you not use it as a power source. Buy clip leads and solder them on and use the battery as the power source. You can obtain the electrical clips from any hardware store.

did you use a test light this would be the primary source for an accessory not to work unless the wires to the connector on the back side of the lighter itself has come undone or it may very well be the ground to it you need to visually inspect it a mirror may be of assistance to have a look if you cannot bend under neath the dash maby you can remove the ashtray to better view it

Replace the 15 amp ACC fuse that is in the fusebox under the dash. See if this eliminates your problem.

Apart from the fuse box in the engine bay there is a fuse repository behind the coin alcove underneath the boot release. Fuse 3 for the lighter (I think) was blown. I replaced it and now the climate control console responds and the display lights up.
