My automatic Audi A4 1.8L does not move at all. I have been told it's the gearbox. I cannot afford to buy a used gearbox, what options do i have?

I suggest you go to the junk yard &get .a used transmission there if your short on money, but you will have to get a new torque converter(about 100 bucks).Install it yourself & you will be able to cut the cost of your repair considerably.Keep posting

Depends on who told you?
make sure you get on opinon from a qualifed machanic or Audi dealer before you start any investment.

options.

save money to buy required part, second hand is ok but is it a wise investment as usually there is not garantee, also are you sure what caused the gearbox to fail could the same thing happen to the new gearbox.

if your saving anyway why not save and get a new gearbox, then you have a garantee from Audi

depending on age of car, consider saving to buy a replacement vehicle which is cheaper to buy and cheaper to run.

maybe better to drive a lesser car that works and still put food on the table.

wishing you all the best and hope this was useful.

2004 a4 2.0 sport petrol, estate, automatic transmission.112 000miles the car does not move at all . also i cannot change the gear range 1,2,3,4,5,6 when pull the gear stick on the manual gear change section...

The first thing to do is to plug in a diagnosis machine and check for errors in the gear system. From my experience it could be a sensor in the gearbox or the ECU.

What grade (or part number) of automatic transmission fluid do I put into a 2008 Audi A6 S-line. The car has a 2.0 TDi with 6 speed automatic (tiptronic) gearbox

It is imperative you use the correct fluid in your Audi tiptronic transmission. Look in your owners manual for the correct fluid. If you do not have an owners manual call your local Audi dealer or better yet drive to one and purchase Audi Pentosin A/T fluid from the dealer. Do not use Dexron III as it is not designed for the Triptonic transmission. A transmission is very expensive to replace so do not take any chances and just buy your fluid from your Audi dealer even though you may pay a little more. That way you are 100% sure you are using the correct fluid.

Don't know because they were only introduced in 2001, and they are doing well so far.
Supposed to be better then a normal automatic.

I have been told I need a gearbox rebuild. Car Audi A4 2002

Hi there. Your vehicle is fitted with an electronic automatic transmission and I suggest that before any expensive rebuild work is undertaken on the transmission, especially when you say it drives fine, it that the intermittent electrical problem is resolved. You should firstly have an authorised Dealer check out the fault codes on the transmission ECU – this might identify where the problem is. They will also be able to perform a ‘Stall Test’ and again this will determine the effective operation of the gearbox. Hope this helps, Scottech.
