The answer to that question depends entirely on what is wrong with the system. The first step is to scan your Engine Control Module (ECM or PCM) as well as your Antilock Brake Control Module (ABS) for fault codes. Then each fault code retrieved must be diagnosed to find the cause. Only after the cause has been found can the system be repaired.

How?

No different than any other vehicle issues

You check for codes

If you have codes you use then to start
a diagnostic process.

Codes or not you use trouble charts &
component test until you find a problem
in the system your working on.

My 2003 Chevy Tahoe has traction control. I noticed this winter when i was on some ice that the traction control light stated that traction control was activated but i could hear grinding and it did not...

It is not supposed to. The traction control gives power to opposing wheels and applies brakes in milliseconds to prevent total loss of control of the car. The computer immediately takes over and prevents 4wd that could send the car into a worse skid.. You are talking about ice which is very different from snow where traction is concerned. The grinding you hear could have been the anti-lock system being activated.

Service traction system

Are the tires the same size all the way around?? The other thing that this could be is a bad wheel sensor, Go to Auto Zone and have them scan the car'e ECM for DTC codes. That would make things easier to see if it's the wheel sensors or the traction control module. Check all the fuses too, if the car had ABS problems and was disabled the traction control light will come on too. God luck and keep me posted, be glad to help
