It is located under the dash above the driver's feet-and it can be checked at the dealer if they hook it up to a tech two scanner-you can check basic functions by hooking it up to a generic scanner to see if you get data with the key on-they usually do not go bad, however.

I would say no, you have to send it back to
a rebuilder to have it tested.

A repair shop can look at the data going
in & out of the PCM with a scannner.

That is all a scanner does

There are no computers involved in any
auto repairs

Why ? If your vehicle has that major of a problem your best bet would be to take it to a qualified repair shop . I 'm sure you don't have the tools to deal with this type repair .

Retrieved codes P0191, P0152, P1246, P1233 and P1000 on my 02' Taurus 3.0 OHV. What would be the most likely culprit causing these codes?

P1000 - Monitor Testing Not Complete The on board diagnostic II (OBD II) monitors are performed during the OBD II Drive Cycle. The DTC will be stored in continuous memory if any of the OBD II monitors do not complete.
  • Vehicle is new from the factory
  • Battery or PCM had recently been disconnected
  • An OBD II monitor failure had occurred before completion of an OBD II drive cycle
  • PCM DTCs have recently been cleared with a scan tool
  • PTO circuit is shorted to VPWR or B+ or PTO is on during testing
The DTC does not need to be cleared from the PCM except to pass an inspection/maintenance test

Car died on frway towed to shop started up. 3 years ago had tune up and car died. mech said needed new distributor module 400$. got a used one same problem. Changed plug wires and ran fine till now. Thats...

3 years ago, my car was running really rough. No accelleration, stalling etc. I narrowed it down to the distributor and changed it myself for about 100 bucks. Then last week, the car would start sometimes and sometimes not. When it would not start, I found that it had no spark. So it finally quit altogether. I put the old distributor back in (Yes, I kept it), and it ran. It ran rough like it did 3 years prior, but it ran. I have purchased another distributor for $100, and will put it in, and it will fix the problem. The distributor is an all in one package. Coils, rotor, pickups. It's held on by 2 bolts (12mm socket). Pretty easy to change out, just pay attention to the way the rotor is pointing when you take the old one out, and put the new one in the same. 3 year lifespan due to a sh*tty oil seal on them.
