Sounds like an impossible dream....and pricey....youd have to have a pwr steering pump mounted in the perfect position for alignment and a belt, probably not a space for another belt on the crankshaft..... high pressure hoses etc.... i dont see how that vehicle could be hard to steer being light in the front end.....grease the front end and steering at every grease fitting on it .... always have the vehicle moving, even just a little will help, before turning and that will make turning the wheel easier. OK!!

Short answer for an '86 is "yes."
It was a factory option so lots of them are out there.
In practice it is a real pain in the bottom to retro-fit as you need a lot of parts and they ain't cheap.
As mentioned above, the manual steering is really good on these so if you are having a problem, have it checked out and repaired. You will probably be pleasantly surprised at how easy it is in proper working order.
Stiff steering can be as simple as lack of lube in the rack to bad ball joints.

Try on-line parts store like gowesty.com, van-caf?.com or busdepot.com
Failing that, a junkyard like "pick n pull" or similar is a very good source for items like this.

Replace fuel tank seals VW T25 vanagon

Dropping the fuel tank is rather involved. Beyond this sort of Q&A format.

I suggest you get a Bently Workshop Manual and a seal kit from gowesty.com or similar.

Also plan on replacing fuel hoses and a new filter would be a good idea.

One word of caution. The plastic overflow tanks in each wheel well have nipples for the fuel lines that become quite fragile so BE CAREFUL! The tanks are not available new.

Vw camper ignition timing

If it is really a 1986 the spec is 5 degrees before top dead center at idle.
Much better (and easier) to set at 35 degrees BTDC at 3000 rpm.

Power stearing on 2001 VW passat

Depends on how you define closed system, Just the spot to add the fluid is all that you should have open. It's the Green cap near the drivers front head light (it'll have a little steering wheel logo on the cap) It takes special VW CHF 11S fluid (most autozones, carquest etc.) should have it.
