My 2004 mountaineer transmission has a steady leak. What are the possible problems? How much should I expect to pay? How difficult is the labor?

Where does it leak from?

You have to ask all price questions
at a trans repair shop

This is a social web site, not a business

If you have to pull the trans to repair, then it
will get expensive

You change trans & power steering fluids every
30,000 miles

Not changing fluid or leaks are a death sentence
for your trans

I don't know where it's leaking from. Somewhere in the back. All I know is that I have to drive back home this week, a 500 mile trip. Once I'm home my husband can get it looked at / fixed. I really just need to know, if it's safe enough to take the trip.
I was planning on just keeping an eye on the reservoir and re-filling it as needed for the trip, but it doesn't have a reservoir that I can check easily.
So what is a sensible solution to the problem?

You have to have the leak checked out & the fluid level
checked before you go 500 miles

Mercury Mountaineer transmission is allowing 1st 3 gears but won't shift to 4th or 5th(Overdrive). What could be problem. I service the ****** regularly. Thanks

This problem is likely caused by a failed clutch pack or low fluid pressure due to a internal leak. The bottom line here is that you will need transmission pressure gauges hooked up and then road test performed. Also you will need to test the system for fault codes. I think based on the symptoms you will need to replace or rebuild the transmission.

OIL WILL BE BLACK IN COLOR! TRANSMISSION FLUID IS RED! IT MIGHT BE LEAKING ONTO THE EXHAUST! RECOMMEND HAVING A SHOP CHECK IT OUT FOR YOU!

I need a new transmission in my 2004 Mercury Mountaineer V8 AWD, how much should I expect to spend?

Replacing a transmission can run $1,800-$3,500
I'm thinking closer to $2800 for you because it is a more sophisticated AWD model, perhaps more. Hope that is informative enough for you.

Please rate me, thanks!

Transmission needs repair or replacemrnt...automatic.. how much can i expect to pay in dallas texas?

A transmission rebuild runs about $2400. A reman trans plus labor to swap out runs around $2700. You might find one at a salvage yard (most of them will guarantee them to work) for around $500 and you might find a shop to change it out for $500 in labor.

New Transmission

Don't replace it... get it rebuilt for about $1400. You should receive at least a 12 month warranty with a rebuilt as well. Otherwise, new transmission plus labor - $2600

Speedometer works sometimes and sometimes does not. Also the temp gauge does the same thing.

This is a very common problem. The instrument cluster is faulty and need to be replaced. Expect to pay approx.$250 for the dash cluster, and 1 hour labor to install it.

Transmission doesn't work in D or 2, but will in 1

idk it depends how far you are driving it to a place. i would say about 3,000 dollars to rebuild your tranny.

Cv boot repair

I found it easier to replace the drive axil assembly, rather than just the boot. Far faster and cleaner, and about $150 per axil plus labor. Can be difficult if you have not done it before.
