Question about Dodge Grand Caravan

1 Answer

When I come to a stop at a light after my 96 3.3 L Caravan is warm, I get a lurch when stopping, and the tach pecks up and down a couple of times. When I go to accelerate, there is sometimes a hesitation like the transmission is slipping. The van actually stalled once when trying to accelerate from the light. I also noticed that when the cruise is on and going up a hill, the engine is not able to keep it at speed, and it once dropped 20 Kph until I reached the top. ( Not sure if this could be related but thought I would add it.) There are no codes or lights that I can see.

You need to clean the IAC again and also the throttle valve and bore, use only CRC brand Throttle body cleaner. After they are thoroughly cleaned disconnect the battery for 5 min's and then drive the car in varying condition for a few days. If that doesn't cure the issue you have more serious problems and will need a scan tool to look into the readings from the MAF, TPS and ECT sensors. High idle cold start is normal then slowly dropping after a few minutes. I assume you never had a check engine light. Correct?

2002 Lincoln LSE 3.9L 124,000 MI. stalls after a stop or hard braking.

Hi.
This may be a "sticky injector"

This would cause overfuelling - and a sudden rise in RPM. The ECU will see this and compensate - by shutting the injectors down lower - , which then stalls the vehicle.

Worth a try runnig cleaner through them.

2004 Camry lurches forward when stopping.

Sounds like the torque converter isn't unlocking quick enough. Drive at 45mph,keep foot on gas and use other foot to touch the brake and watch the tach to see if it speeds up,when converter releases. Check trans fluid level hot.If it is more than a couple years old, change. Use the correct fluid for Toyota and add a bottle of Lubgard. Have the throttle positon senor scanned and check any idle control circuits. Throttle Body may need cleaning.

My dodge caravan 96 shakes only when i am at a stop

Many things can cause it But A Bad IAC Motor (idle air control motor) can cause stalling and shaking to a point when you stop if its not providing the proper air mixture .

Lifter pecking

as old as the car is...I'm not surprised.   You have a sticking or worn hydraulic lifter.  You my try an engine flush followed by a oil change. Or totally ignore it.  Is your oil pressure good?
