Question about 2000 Ford Expedition

My 2000 Ford Expedition battery keeps going dead. We took it to a advance auto parts store and they tested it and said that is using 4 volts even without the key in the switch. What could be our problem ?

You have a draw on the system that you will have to find out what in the car is causing it,to do this with a meter hooked up to check for a draw and the doors closed remove all fuses until the draw goes away.when the draw is gone the same time the fuse is pulled that is the circuit you will have to check for the draw.

2000 Ford Ranger is killing alternators immediately after install

the best way to test an alternator is with a load test-partstores dont do that--battery may still have a bad cell even tho it tested good--an alternator can burn up charging a completely dead batt--make sure batt reads at 12.6volts and no less-----if it reads say at 12.3 its only 50% charged!

How do I know what the battery light is flashing means

It means that a low voltage output is occurring in the battery charging system. Have it checked free at any of the chain parts stores like Autozone and others, it is free!!!

How can you tell if alternater is going bad

Yes the battery will run dead after charging it very quickly. If you put an alternator to the test with a DC volt meter it should produce at least 13.2 volts even under a heavy load. Any Autozone or Advance auto parts will test the battery and the Alternator for free.

The battery light on the dash came on 4 days ago on my 2000 Ford Expedition (5.4 l), but still ran ok for a day. The next day, started car, then the radio shut off and I turned off the car and tried to...

When your battery light comes on it is telling you that your ALTERNATOR is not charging your battery! So you need to replace the alternator.

You can verify that it is bad by taking the car or just the alternator to an auto parts store and having them test it for you for free.

On my 2000 expedition battery light came on, took alt. off had checked an they told me it was good, put back in car battery light still on

"They" are probably mistaken. You can't always test every internal component of the alternator on the test bench. I would try a new unit, keep it clean and maybe you can return it if you know a friendly parts supplier.

I just posted the question about the battery light and then the vehicle dieing underway. i didn't mention we jump started the vehicle, let it run for a bit and then drove it home. That was 4 days ago and...

This sounds like a generator problem or a dead cell in battery. If you have a local Autozone, Advanced Autoparts, or Oreilly Auto Parts they can check battery and charging system for free at the curb side. If your battery has a dead cell in it it wont hold a charge. Since you say you jumped the vehicle that means the alternator/generator is putting out some voltage to keep car running.. but it may be under performing and not producing enough volts 13.5 or higher to charge battery.

My 2000 ford expedition has a shortage that keeps draining my battery

Disconnect the negative battery cable. Put an ammeter between the negative battery terminal and the disconnected cable. Remove fuses one at a time and look for a large drop in current. The fuse with the big drop is on the circuit with the short.

Note that even with the ignition off the radio, the alarm, and the remote entry will pull a few milliamps each. The control module might also draw some power.

After locating the circuit with the problem you need to check wiring and components for shorts.

A service manual (Haynes, Chilton, etc.) with a wiring diagram is helpful. Check your local auto parts store for manuals.

I have a 2000 Ford Expedition. The battery was

Hi:
The battery light is telling you that you are running off the battery, and you have a problem with your charging system. An easy way to check your alternator is to get a volt meter, and measure the voltage of your fully charged battery. with your expedition not running, it should read about 12.6 volts. When you start your expedition, it should read approx 14 volts if your alternator is working properly.
Of course, check all of your connections first, and most auto parts stores will check your alternator out for free, so they might have a chance to sell you one!
