### How many gallons of coolant does the northstar engine hold?

Coolant should be mixed in most cases to a 50% concentration, meaning one gallon of undiluted coolant will provide two gallons of diluted coolant. Most engines will hold 2-3 gallons of coolant mix. I normally purchase two gallons of undiluted coolant. I pour the first gallon of undiluted coolant into the radiator, then fill the empty bottle with water and add that to the radiator as well to make it a 50% mix.. Then, I pour half the second bottle of undiluted coolant into the empty coolant bottle, and then top both off with water to make two gallons of 50% mix. I then add coolant to the radiator as needed until full, keeping the remainder for topping off later as air purges itself form the system.

No such thing radiator capacity because, when you fill up the cooling system of the engine that holds more than the engine. When you fill the radiator to the top till, it spills that it. The small car cooling system hold an of average 2.5 gallons 3 gallons total is the most. Hope this will help you understand radiator capacity. Good luck.

### 98 deville will not take no more than 2 gallons of gas.

It sounds like your vent hose is plugged or your feed hose is kinked either way the tank will need removed to inspect

### 98 caddi deville small pin leak at top of radiator, changed cap to 10 pd , stopped leaking but when we use the air cond it over heats and needs more coolant getting frustrated

The radiator cap is rated for a reason. The higher the pressure the cap holds, the higher the boiling temperature is because the high pressure holds air in the coolant. By putting a lower rated cap on your lowered the boiling point of the coolant. Put the correct cap on and fix the leak. Why didn't you just fix the leak in the first place? You can use JB Weld to fix a pin-hole.

### Runs cool for about 15 miles then it gets hot(220) so i turn it off to let it cool about a half gallon of water is gone

220 to 230 deg. F is actually normal for the 1998 Cadillac Deville. If it goes to 250 deg. F or even 260 deg. F it goes into a limp mode where fresh air is pumped into 1/2 of the cylinders to preserve the engine up to 40 mi. of travel (in the case that a radiator fan isn't working or coolant has completely leaked out of the system).

If a half gallon of water is gone in the system and you keep losing it, there is a leak in the system say in the water pump o-ring or the radiator, or a hose.

### Why does my 98 deville continue to overheat?

check to see if there is a valve (usually vacuum actuated) inline somewhere on the lines that go from the block to the heater core. Maybe it is stuck...
