Door in 2000 Chevy Blazer will not shut. The latch on the door is stuck down so that it can not hook onto the bar which is on the body of the car. Pulling it with pliers did not work (even when pulling the car handle) . Neither did WD40

Sounds like either your striker has gotten out of adjustment so far that the door isn't latching onto it, or that you have a bad latch. Either way, I would suggest a reputable body shop. They are used to dealing with door alignments and operation.
I too have had this issue. This is what I did too solve problem
step 1 spray with brake cleaner to remove all foreign materials
step 2 check operation with screw driver and door handle.
step 3 check that bar on body is aligned properly with catch in door
step 4 use large torx bit to loosen bar and align with door catch then retighten
step 5 lube catch with white lithium grease or equivalent not ( water displacer 40) problem should be solved
SOUNDS LIKE LATCH WAS IN CLOSED POSITION WHEN DOOR WAS SHUT I'VE HAD IT HAPPEN A FEW TIMES PUT A SCREWDRIVER IN THE LATCH OPENING AND PRY WHILE PULLING INSIDE HANDLE...IT MAKE TAKE A TIME OR TWO
Door pins are a common failure on that series of Blazer/S10's. Also, another point of contention that the door faces is a sticky latch. Basically, the door latch re-latches itself and when you shut the door into the catch, it slams into it and bounces off. An easy fix is a 3 part cocktail of brake parts cleaner. Open and shut the latch with a screw driver acting as the catch and your interior door handle a few times. P'Blaster, open and shut the door a few times with the screwdriver acting as the catch. Finally, a good shot of white lithium grease. Open and shut the door with a screwdriver as the catch several times. Once you feel it is un-stuck, actually close and open the door several times. If you notice the door rising every time it catches, you MUST replace the door pins (cheap fix). If the door still has issues, replace the door latch (and since you're in there, do some PM and replace the actuator as well).
If it is closing inproperly, open door. Lift up on bottom of door near latch. If there is movement the hinge pins need to be replaced. If there is no up & down movement adjust stiker bar on pillar that door closes onto, either up, down or in or out, depending on how it closes.
under the carpet installed on the tailgate door, there is a hole. put a screw driver in it and manually flip the latch open, to start.
yjen take the door panel off, one screw with the interiro handle, and pull the rest off,
watch the auto release slidw side to side, you will find a broken piece here, I made an extension piece with a plastic hook and screw, works fine for over a year, lube all latch parts with wd 30 once opened.
The part in the door is called the Door Latch/Electric lock assembly,(If you don't have electric locks it's just called the door latch), The part in the door jam is called the striker assembly.
Take a small pry-bar or screwdriver and pry down on the latch on the side of the door and pull up on the door handle at the same time. this will unlock the door so it can now go over the striking pin.
