Hi i think on this jag the handbrake (emergency brake ) is built into the caliper, therefore the piston
has to be wound back in.
To do this you must put pressure on the piston at the same time as rotating it ( usually clockwise )
Automotive stores sell a tool to do this which makes it alot easier job.
There are holes or slots in the piston to locate the tool, or if no tool use long nose pliers located in
the piston and turn while applying pressure ( it`s not an easy job without the special tool )
So i hope i have been of some help to you
Good luck John ( South Wales UK )

Go to the auto parts store and ask them for the "rear brake caliper tool to retract the piston". This comes as a square and has sides with different spaced tips. Use your 3/8" ratchet and a 6" extention and as you turn slowly, push inward. This will colapse the piston back into the housing (caliper) and allow you to reinstall the caliper to the hub. The tool costs about $10. Let me know if you need anything else.

02 x type rear piston/caliber

Use a "C" clamp. Put the threaded part inside the piston, and the other part behind, and screw it till it is flush. Or do you mean you tried that, and it just won't move?

How to change rear brake pads on audi a6 2006

Remove the tires, Remove the calaper bolts, (small heads on them 12mm or so) Remove calaper, Pads are setting in a holder. Lube new pads with litheum grease and place in holder. (look at old pads, one or both may have small metel tab on one end) If the new pads have the tab, put that pad where the old pad with the tab was. (ie. tab to the inside) Press pistion in with a 'C' clamp. If it won't go in easly, it may screw in. If the parking brake cable is hooked to the calaper, it probly screws in. Use large pliers to screw in calaper piston. Place calaper over pads and install bolts (lube bolts) Rember to pump brakes befor driving . to get a solid peddle.

I can't retract the rear calper on my 2002 Jaguar X-type. I am changing the pads & rotor. vem

What are you using? A c-clamp or you hands? A c-clamp ussually works but can sometimes cause the piston to become ****-eyed in the caliper. Best bet is to use the proper tool or a c clamp. Both work good. If it won't retract with those, the piston is siezed. Time for a new caliper.
