You go to a trans repair shop for that job

You remove the transfer case, then the trans

Not a driveway job

Parts are to heavy & not a job you can do
safely without experience and the right equipment

on may RWD cars, i pull the engine, to get to the clutch or flywheel
as that is easier to do then fighting 4wd parts. laying on my back for
5 hours. can be real hard, if not on a real lift.
how to do this depends on your tools, your shop and your skills
i have a friend who has pit in his shop and special jacks for it.
so tools are the deal, engine lift, tranny lift. etc.

then ask questions on the 70 steps

Tis a transfer case issue. Could be shifting fork wear pads worn out which will wear the fork ends to where their bent.

Engine light is on, flashes when driving above 100 Km

stop by local parts store (Autozone,Advance, etc) and have them do a free fault code test. They can print out a list of faults and clear the codes

How do I turn on the 4 X 4 on my 1999 Ford Explorer or is it automatic? I don't have a manual. Is there some sort of button on the dashboard?

There should be a knob or selector on the dash usually located to left of the radio. When you put your vehicle in 4wd you can do this on the move at a sloe rate of speed but never try to put it into 4wd low on the move or it will hurt the system. To put the vehicle in 4wd Lo stop and put your transmission in neutral and the select 4wd Lo. Hope this helped you out, Roger

Where is the starter on a 2001 Ford Explorer?

Once you crawl under it, it will be pretty obvious. It's on the underside of the car, hugs the engine block and is butted up against the transmission. If you are unfamiliar with what a starter looks like here is a link. 2001 Ford Explorer Starter

Most of the time if you unhook the battery, wait a couple of min., then hook up again.
THis resets the computer, and it has worked on mine, after Ford said I was looking at
a very large repair charge.

1994 explorer manual transmission install

it is a pain in the ****, the best thing to do is take a hammer and flatten out the body seam in the trans tunnel, it will go in then but its still kind of a pain, the best position for the trans is to go in kind of sideways and with the back angled up a little, hope this helps
