This may also be a problem with the the throw out fork (clutch fork) or its bearing or the plate. Visual inspection is the way to check if all parts are moving. Below is a link which shows a simple illustration.

Have someone push the clutch pedal down a few times while you watch for movement at the bell housing. See how far it is traveling. It is possible to need a new cable because they do stretch but let's be sure that it is not something else first. If it has only a little bit of movement, a cable will probably necessary. Let me know.

Yes the lever and throw out bearing should move smoothly.

you should be able to put the transmission in nuetral and then be able to shift the t-case. Are you able to rotate the rear wheels and have the drive shaft move?

Let me get this right with the engine off you can shift into any gear, but with the engine running you can not get it into any gear? is there any pressure on the clutch peddle? if there is no pressure on the peddle make sure the cable is connected properly and is working when you push the peddle, if there is pressure on the peddle then you need to make sure you installed the clutch disk the right direction there is a front and back to the disk.

it could have leaking slave cylinder on gear box bell housing or your clutch needs replacing, gear box out and replace clutch as a kit, pressure plate, clutch plate, thrust bearing (comes as kit) but dont forget to check and or replace the spigot bearing in the rear of the crank shaft when doing clutch kit.

City Golf is not going into gear when the car is running/on, only when its off...?

It is possible that the water you went through entered the housing and overnight it got stuck onto the fly wheel. Depress clutch put it in gear with engine not running and push car forward and backwards. It should come loose, if not replace clutch kit.

the noise you hear is the thro-out-bearing .when you apply the clutch pedal it applies pressure on the pressure plate .the noise stops until you let out the clutch again, the bearing can be replaced without replacing the whole kit, clutch ,pressure plate,thro-out-bearing if money is a issue,...Merry Christmas.

Unfortunately, it sounds like your pressure plate is going bad. That is the larger part in the following picture. When you depress the clutch pedal it pushes the throw out bearing (the smallest round part) against those center "feelers" and that disconnects the clutch (the next size down round plate) from your engine flywheel.

Normally you would replace all three parts at the same time.

Makes noise when engine turned and clutch out. When clutch engages noise stops. Pressure Plate? Fly Wheel? whole clutch?....How expensive?

Sounds like a throw out bearing going bad. This can be replaced without having to replace the clutch and pressure plate, however I would never reccomend it. Normally when you have a malfunctioning clutch component, you replace them all. The best solution here is to replace the clutch, pressure plate, throw out bearing and pilot bearing. You can usually get this as a kit. While you have the transmission down and the clutch removed, make sure to take the flywheel to a machine shop and have it resurfaced. Good luck! the only way that the seal pops is when the piston comes out the end of the cylinder that indicates that the installation of the clutch kit is incorrect and the throw out arm is not in the throw out bearing carrier properly
regardless of makes , if the clutch kit is made for that vehicle it will fit

Well, two possibilities. Clutch adjustment, or broken/bent parts. or #2

hydraulic issue (if yours is this type): prebleed master cylinder and then do not let it run dry again, or start over

Clutch wont disengage and i can push the car when

That burnt smell is what used to be your clutch disk, and you will need to replace the clutch before you will be able to drive that vehicle again. You should purchase a complete clutch kit for your vehicle, and it should come with a new pressure plate, clutch disk, throw-out/release bearing, a pilot bearing, and a clutch disk alignment tool, and be sure that the pilot bearing is replaced when that new clutch is installed.

Clutch went down to floor would not return

Your clutch master cylinder "seal" is worn-out.
It make your brake system can't build up pressure to brake fluid.
Easily just fix it with repair kit or change whole new complete set.
