Does the brake lights come on when you step on the brake padle? if yes then its the shifter itself and if no then its the brake light switch.

This can be caused by a ignition key interlock fault, the best thing to do is see the dealer for testing.

My 2006 dodge charger is stuck in park how do i repair it

When the car gets stuck in park it is due to the park lock system, the system will not release unless the brake lights are on so if you have no brake lights then the gear shifter will not move. Check the brake lights first.

The Dodge Magnum and Charger shifters are having issues that result in being unable to shift from park.
There is a small plastic cog in the gear shift assembly that ends up going bad... if this is the case for you, you are not alone.
The dealer's remedy is to replace the ENTIRE shift assembly because they don't sell parts for it.
There is a company called "Billet technologies" and they sell a metal machined replacement part and they have links to illustrated replacement of the part. It does involve taking the console apart, and part of the radio bezel out of the car.
It's involved but it can be done... I recommend checking for any warranty first, then if you feel daring, you can order the part and have at it.
I personally own a 05 Magnum and the shifter is sticking now and then. We shut the car off and restart and sometimes it releases. I'm going to spray lube down the openings of the shifter to keep things freed up until I can replace the cog inside.
Hope this helps...

2006 charger will not come out of park saw recall notice on but vehicle will not come out of park without some muscle. Even then it will not shift into any other gear after it gets into...

The shifter has gone bad and you need to get it to the dealer for a replacement. If the shifter get's stuck in park and you can not do what your are doing to get it in to gear, here is a way for you to get it in to gear just so you don't have to tow it to the dealer for repairs. Refer to your manual for the break release for towing the car.  There is a little red/pink leaver that has to pushed toward the shifter that can be accessed after you remove the chrome trim and coin cup to the right of the shifter on the console
Good luck and keep me posted, be glad to help if you need more information to the break shifter realest

Have a 1998 4runner. automatic. the gear lever has been getting stuck and will not come out of park, rev, sometimes stuck in park. problem is that i have replaced the bulb for the shifter light, but now...

Check the brake lights when the the problem occurs, the system has an electric interlock that dis-engages a lock-out pin and allows you to come out of park only when the brake light circuit is active and it gets a 12 volt signal from the brake light switch, other issues are the solenoid that pulls the pin back and the cable and linkage sticking, pull the cover off the linkage and make sure everything works freely.
