Hi, if it's a front wheel bearing, it will quiet when turning. If it quiets when turning right, it's the right front. If it quiets when turning left, it's the left front.

Low transmission fluid. Manual gearboxes normally use gear oil, automatics use transmisison fluid. Sill could be a bearing, just not a wheel bearing. Just curious, how can you tell its not a wheel bearing?

hello
most of the time when there is a humming noise other then a brake noise you have a wheel bearing bad the best way to tell if it is a wheel bearing making noise is while you are driving down the road and the vehicle is making the noise slightly turn the steering wheel left to right if the noise changes at all replace the wheel bearings gm cars are notorious for wheel bearing
good luck chris

sorry to tell you this but it sounds like the wheel bearing was put in backwards on one or both sides. the front wheel bearings have a black speed ring built in and that is what your speed sensor reads off. - this is common as the front bearings will install either way- hope this helps

How can you tell if the front hub assembley needs changed. There is a loud noise that gets louder as you pick up speed. I was told it was the front wheel bearing but there is no wheel bearing just the...

There is a wheel bearing inside the hub as well. They will sell those bearings I've bought them before. Chances are you need to talk to a better parts guy. You can tell if it's a wheel bearing by taking the vehicle up to a speed where the noise is clearly audible. Then swerve the vehicle back and forth in your lane. If the sound changes or goes away when you swerve, it's a wheel bearing. Obviously we're not trying to crash the vehicle here, so don't get over aggressive with the swerving.
