Question about 2000 Dodge Durango

1 Answer

I went to a auto shop to have them check on my reverse lights because both of the lights are not working. The auto shop wanted $850 for this. This is what they said... "reverse lights- testing indicates backup light/transmission range switch has failed/ switch located above valve body in transmission". Does that sound like its worth $850 to fix? What should I do?

There should be a Neutral safety switch, which also acts as a back-up light switch. It should be located close to where linkages attach to transmission, and is threaded into side of transmission. Not very expensive and about 10-15 min to change .I went to a auto - motor1258_24.jpg

1995 volvo 850 turbo wagon will not start all of a

You can check 2 things. 1., have someone in the car to turn the key to the start position. Tap the starter with a small hammer and see if it cranks. If it does, replace the starter. 2., have the battery tested as well as the connections to the battery. Corrosion builds and can cause heavy resistance to heavy loads(like starting). These are the 2 most likely causes. Let me know if you need further assistance.

96 Volvo 850 Turbo. Both headlights went out but the high beams work if I hold the switch back. Turn lights and running lights still work. Dash lights glitch slightly as well

there is a head lamp switch mounted to the steering column. it has died. to access it you have to remove the cover under the dash. remove the four bolts hold the steering column and let it drop down. find the switch usually behind and to the side of the ignition switch. there will be a rod giong to it from the handle. remove and replace the switch and assemble in reverse order

Reversing lights not working dealer fix horrendous price!

Try getting a qoute from an auto-electrical shop. The problem "may" be just the reverse sensor switch. These guys are usually a fair bit cheaper than so-called expert shops and you get to speak with the person that is actually doing the job.Not a desk jockey payed to talk bull-cookies.Hope this helps

Auto tranmission

You may want to have the solenoid found on the transmission checked. It is the one that sends the signal to shift. Check if the oil seal is broken or the actual solenoid needs replacing. Check also the valves in the transmission. It may be blocked or faulty.

1996 850 Wagon. Sticks in park, and more

If the ABS light is on, it's probably the ABS controller. Try Victor Rocha at http://home.earthlink.net/~vicrocha/ for help.

The shift lock sticking is probably the microswitch going/gone bad: http://ipdusa.com/product.asp?strParents=&CAT_ID=0&P_ID=3108&strPageHistory=search&numSearchStartRecord=1

You also need to scan the computer for the check engine light. It may help illuminate the problem. Snort. :)
