Question about Mitsubishi Diamante

1 Answer

My W5A51 trans in my Diamante is slow to change allowing it to Rev Quite high when it is cold and it sometimes slips out of gear when cornering around turning circles. I have checked the trans fluid level and it seems fine however the atf colour is a little off I would say on a scale of 1 to 10 10 being black it is a two.

When you check the fluid do you allow the trans to come to operating temp and check it with the engine running and trans in neutral, don't forget to set your E-brake or block the wheels from rolling. you checked the fluid in this manner it would be my guess that the clutches inside the trans or the belts in the trans are slipping, it could also be something as simple as needing a trans service, new fluid and filter.

1998 malibu transmission slipping when it is cold

Sounds like a servo seal (o-ring) in the trans itself. If the seal leaks, it will not allow the proper pressure to build in the circuit that engages bands and clutches. I see a trans rebuild in your future.

Tranny slips when warm, runs fine cold, why?

That's a sign of hardened seals. They're stiff and leak when cold and soften and seal better as they warm up When did you change fluid last? You can try a fluid flush and a bottle of Lubeguard supplement. But really, start saving for a transmission rebuild.

1994 nissan altima sometimes sluggish at take off, high rpms when changing gears

This sounds like a slipping transmission , check the fluid level first and make sure its full, if its full then you have ****** problems and may need to have ****** rebuild done,

Another thing is to make sure the trans passing gear cable is connected at the throttle where the gas cable is.

My car is loud when I accelerate and the RPM's go high but the car moves slow. I was told it might be the ATF and filter that need to be changed. Does this sound right?

check level, and if it is low add it to the proper level, but it sounds like the trans is slipping, which is bad-when you drive it, try not to allow it to slip, that is not more gas than it will take. allowing the engine to run ahead of the trans will cause irreversible damage, and you will end up replacing the trans if you allow this to happen. Hopefully it is not too far gone.

The automatic gearbox on my mondeo 2002 changes gears but slips

In the engine compartment, you will need to locate the transmission dipstick. Usually on the left side of the motor, labeled "Trans fluid". Pull it out and check the fluid level. Your problem could be as simple as putting transmission fluid in it. That will make it slip. You fill the transmission right down the dipstick tube.

1966 Falcon with C4 Transmission I changed out fluid and filter

Generally, what causes C-4's and C-6's to be slugish going into gear, is the seals on the servo pistons are getting hard. The servo pistons are what apply pressure on the clutch packs, when the seals get hard the oil can blow past the piston and the clutch won't engage. It's worse when the the trany is cold and usualy gets better as the oil gets warm. You could try some transmission conditioner, the cheep stuff works as good as the high dollar stuff. Don't rev the engine to try to get it to go into gear, the clutch is trying to engage and you will burn the clutch up pack. If the clutches were replaced 3k miles ago why didn't they put seals in it at the same time?

TRANSMISSON PROBLEMS

if its manual sounds like your clutch could be slipping does car smell of burt clutch?
check cluth adjustment
may need new clutch
do stall test with hand brake on, foot (heel-toe) on brake and accel pedal to about 2000rpm then let out clutch and car should stall if engine revs go down and engine still runs but you can rev causing slip and you will now smell what slipping burnt clutch is replace it.

if its auto check trans oil level and what does it look like red-good
darker red to black-bad often smells burnt also possibly new trans required.
