Question about 1995 Ford Thunderbird

3 Answers

I have a 1995 Ford Thunderbird 4.6L V8. The problem I am having is that at times I will be stopped at idle and the engine will suddenly quit on me. The car is on drive and my foot was on the brake pedal. I have already cleaned the MAF with the prescribed electrical spray cleaner. I have also replaced the Air Intake Sensor with a new one. I'm about to replace the air and fuel filters. What else could be the problem?

You first need to clean the air idlecontrol valve with Carb, cleaner check vaccine lines for punchers replace pcv . Cleaning the mass air flow sensor doesn't work buy a new one from auto zone 75 dollars and you should be fine. The 02 sensors should be the last thing to worry about trust me I have the dammed car with the same problem u have and I have not had a check engine light. Ever since

OK, so is it still setting the codes? Or has that gone away with the transmission harness repair? The idle is controlled by the Idle Air Control (IAC) solenoid. Ford has had a lot of trouble with these. However, the symptom is usually low idle speeds that cause the engine to stall. I think I would be looking for vacuum leaks. Ford 4.6L engines are notorious for the PCV hoses leaking at the elbow where it connects to the back of the throttle body.
