Question about 2004 Volvo C70

2 Answers

2004 Voplvo C70 T5 would not start one afternoon about 6 PM clear day 75 degrees. Battery fine. turn over just would not start. Seemed like no fuel or spark to engine. Tried different times and finally about 20 hours later started and has generally started smoothly for past month. Am worried to get stranded somewhere. Some one said replace fuel relay switch for $40. Volvo offered $100 diagnostic testing with no assurance they would find problem. Some said the built in computer would not give sufficient info to help.

Well to get it scanned you need to have it show a problem, i.e check engine light on. If this light is not on, save your $100 cause that test really wont tell you ****. Their scanners cant read a fault code if one isnt present. From what ihve read about this model, it could be a couple things. First is the immobilizer. Check your battery and alternator for corroded cables and replace if corroded. Next is a rev sensor. Im not sure on what this has to do with starting but some owners have had this problem. The logical solution to me would be check your cables from battery. Most ppl overlook the simple things like cables not realizing how important they really are. I dont think u have a fuel problem and im sure Volvo knows of this (especially your dealer). What they dont tell you is,we know the problem but well sell you this unneeded stuff to fix the problem. Let me know if i helped at all.

Though that information is correct, that the computer may not give sufficient info back to use, the problem would have be "captured" live. Some times we have to rely on experience to guide us in the proper direction. What you described though sounds like there may have been a glitch with the alarm/security system and doubt you have anything to worry about but can understand how this would worry you. Keep an eye on it and if it does it again, get it towed to the nearest Volvo dealer immediately so they can capture any faults that may have arrisen. Let me know if you need anything else.

A defective battery will cause these sysmptoms, have it tested not just charged, you can charge for days and if the battery has a bad cell it will change nothing.

1999 C70 T5 misfires for a minute on cold start, but is ok when warmed up. Is this a common temp sensor problems or a air/fuel mix? Possibly MAF meter?

It could be, but any of those would set a fault code and eventually turn the check engine light on. You may want to test for a blown head gasket. Coolant will seep into one or more cylinders and foul the plug until the engine warms up and clears the plug.

2004 Volvo C70 immobilizer problems

I had the same issues with my 2004 C70 and it almost drove me to distraction. It would get up to about 1500 revs and then cut out. Then when I tried to re-start it it refused to start up at all. As with your car, sometimes it was just fine and others it could take half and hour before I could get it to start again. It turned out there were 2 problems. The first problem was fixed by a new rev sensor and the second by a new antenna ring. It's been fine for the last month. Volvo are aware and my excellent local dealer charged just £182 for a complete fix.
