Question about 1987 Mercury Grand Marquis

1 Answer

The car will run for a few minutes or less and will not start again for about 5 minutes. It has no fire or sometimes very sporadic fire at the spark plug or at the coil. I have replaced the ignition coil, the distributor assembly, pick-up coil, and ignition module but nothing changed. Do you have any suggestions?

Since you have replaced all of the ignition parts, have you though that you might have a fuel pump that is weak and getting ready to go out..?

Sounds like it could be several things going on with the vehicle. Spark plugs, Alternator, battery. Would have these checked out.

I have a 1998 Mercury Grand Marquis rough idle, smelling gas first few minutes after I start my car. My car is also flashing engine light sporadically and losing acceleration.I recently changed spark...

flashing light most always means missfire.
could even be crossed wires.to the plugs.
you really need a code reader and find the trouble code .
but in the mean time make sure the firing order is correct.
good luck .gary

when the problem is happening, you need to check to see if you've lost spark or fuel. when you try to restart the car,can you smell gas? if you can,you need to pull off a spark plug wire and put a screwdriver into the end of the wire. set it down 1/4" or so from a metal ground. have someone crank the engine, see if there is a nice strong spark. if so, you're fuel pump is probably faulty. it's inside the gas tank

2 spark plugs not firing

check to see if your plugs need changing and then check your HT/LT leads on the plugs as they may be loose or water clogged somewhere or have a split wire that is just touching enabling it to fire a few times

2002 malibu wont start

check for a bad crank sensor for this controls the timing of crank shaft. and sends info to pcm. it will cause no spark or pulse at injectors.the engine may start but cut out in a few minutes or seconds, of operation. have the car scanned for the problem code, if no scanner, any auto parts store will scan for free. good luck !!

Onece in a while turn over wont fire. runs great other wise

your injector or fuel pump may be going out, next time when you check the issue, check your distubutor again and making sure you getting sparks, if you do have sparks than it has to be your fuel problems.

Sporadic issue with not starting.

Your problem could be your starter relay. It could be internally damaged and causing the intermittent problem. Look in the junction box under the hood for it. If you have your factory manual,it will tell you the exact position of the relay.
