You need to look at your alternator, check the connections and wires that are attached to it.I have seen cases where a person has washed the motor or was working around the alternator and by accident knocked the electric plug or wires loose from the alternator. Unplug the electric plug from the alternator and clean the metal connector in the plug and on the alternator with a nail file or fine sand paper, alot of times it could be a corroded contact thats causing this problem. MAKE SURE YOUR IGNITION IS TURNED OFF,WHEN YOU CLEAN THE CONNECTIONS! If this does not correct it ,then check and see if you have an external regulator or if your regulator is built into your alternator. Ask the guy at the parts store to look up your vehicle, they can tell you the type your model has. If the regulator is built-in to the alternator then you are going to have to get a new alternator...

The easiest way to test the alternator is to start the car and then disconnect the battery. if the car dies then it is the alternator. Tim

What does it mean if my car wont hold a charge if it sits for a few days if the battery is new?

Brand new battery failure that quickly would likely be bad connections at the battery, scrape clean the post connectors of any rust or corrosion. If the problem persists, the alternator would be the next step.

Check Charging System/told not the alternator

Check your battery connections - where the cables connect to the battery posts AND where the cables connect to the starter/main power feed and where the ground cable connects to the engine and/or frame. A poor or corroded connection can cause intermittent problems and poor charging performance.

My battery dies i replaced a brand new alternator but still dosen't charge tomthe battery

The battery most likely has dead cells and not charging due to the alternator .The alternator is doing what it should, your battery just can't hold the charge the alternator is putting out. Go have the battery tested at a local auto zone or advance auto store. Free to check

Brand new Motorola Battery installed by Ford Dealership not holding charge, cables tight, all looks normal?

Remove the negative terminal. With the key off place a test light between the cable end & the terminal. If the test light lights up, there's a direct short in your electrical system. The clock & other constant hot components do not carry enough current to light the test light. Be sure the doors are closed & all things are manually turned off that can be turned off. If test light does not light up there are no direct shorts, check the charging system, alternator & voltage regulator. Auto Zone can check the charging system for free.

Did an engine tune up on a 1975 dodge v8 360 2bbl engine the battery does not keep enough charge to turn over and stay running

Is the charging system working? With the engine running at a fast idle and a voltmeter connected to the battery you should see readings of 14-14.5 volts.

Battery power to car went dead dsc and brake warning light and flat tire monitor lights stay on i recharged the battery now have power but lights are still on

You will have to get the computer reset. Auto Zone used to do it but now they wont. Some shops do it cheap. Or try Auto Zone and see if they will do it for free.

Hi ,we recharged the battery in our magna and idled for about 5 minutes..when we went to drive it kept stopping every time the revs went down ...any ideas thanks larlee australia

Make sure wire conections to alternator are clean and secure. If it's still not charging properly at idle then alternator might need repair. Also make sure engine oil level is okay.
