Does it die while your driving? or even when its idling? it sounds like it could be the distributor. with the distributor, it would run fine, then once it gets hot enough, it dies, and takes hours to cool and turn back on. you should have that checked out. it is common with hondas, but it does cost around 300 with labor to replace.hope this helps. goodluck

Car not starting or turning over indicates towards multiple possibilities. It can be issue with battery or weak battery. But if battery checks out ok, then it can be starter issue or faulty alternator or problem with low fuel pressure or no spark at spark plugs due to dirty spark plugs or faulty ignition coil or injectors getting cracked or dirty and needs to be cleaned.

To confirm the problem, the basic troubleshooting is required.

We were driving down the road and the car just died. had it towed home. it will crank and try to start but doesn't. we can hear the fuel pump turn on. we have also replaced the coil pack. any ideas on what...

You haven't mentioned what type, model or anything so I can just provide a general answer:

timing belt.

if it is the timing belt, while they are in repairing it, (depending on year/mileage on vehicle) have them replace the water pump as well since this will save you a great deal of hassle, time and money in the future.

Car died, water runs out side of car below timing belt, belt doesn't appear to be broken

Ouch sounds like your water pump is broken. That can be really a bad thing. The belt doesn't have to be broken for the water pump to be ruined. Check your oil... as long as your oil isn't milky looking meaning your car overheated and ruined the heads or seals then you should be okay at getting the water pump (and timing belt as they go hand in hand) replaced.

Fuel pump?

Park in a quite location. Get in the back seat. Have someone else turn the ignition switch on without starting the vehicle. Listen for the fuel pump. It will come on and run for a few seconds. If you hear nothing the Fuel Pump is defective, or the fuel pump relay or fuse is bad. If you hear it, then you know it is running but that does not mean it is actually pumping fuel. To verify that you will need a fuel pressure test. Your car is 11 years old, have you replaced the fuel filter. If not replace it before proceeding.
