Question about 2004 Chrysler Town & Country

1 Answer

My 2004 town and country was sitting in the garage for 6 months. After jumping the battery and starting it up the instrument panel (all gauges), air conditioner as well as overhead panel that opens and closes the doors and back and interior lights are no longer working. No power to them at all. The automatic windows work as well as the radio. Oh and no dinging noise when the key is in or the door is open. Any ideas?

At idle, why does speedometer show about 5 or 6 miles per hour and the odometer shows the mileage going up while sitting still?

Could be a bad instrument panel(IP). Rough idle in gear could be a vacuum leak. Maybe a tune up.

Gauges jump w/ acceleration & batt/charging light on

First, have the battery charged and load tested. If it does not pass load test, replace it. An alternator is not made to charge a battery. it's job is to maintain the current state of charge. By driving and attempting to charge it that way you over-worked the alternator and may have damaged it or the regulator. Once the battery is fully charged and in good condition, you will need to check the charging system for proper operation. If the gauge system does not return to normal, it will need further diagnosis to correct it.This isn't a "cure" but rather, what you need to do in order to get back to "square one". With the alternator running "flat out" trying to charge a dead battery it can put out over 15volts, possibly damaging the dash/body control module or computer.

sit in the drivers seat close the door. with the key off hold the trip odometer button in then while holding the button in turn the key on. if done correctly this will put the MIC (mechanical instrument cluster) into a self test. if the speedometer does not move like the rest of the gauges during this test the MIC must be replaced. if the speedometer does move it is likely your problem will be fixed, however, if the speedometer does move but it does not start working properly then further diagnostic will be needed.
