What is causing the fast Idle and slowing down

well gee, there are 50 reasons.
did you scan the PCM yet, if not ,why not?
when the idle surges, that means.
NO RPM ranges stated, if super low rpm check EGR.

1: engine lean and ISC dead, or cant handle the huge engine power drop..The PCM can even make this worse!, buy hunting the ISC to find spec, idle and failing... to...
2: or any of 50 other things causing huge engine power drop and PCM can't maintain idle controls.
super lean burn.(bogging)
super rich burn, misfire for 50 reasons.

i cant hear your engine, nor feel it, or see it shake from gross misfiring.
no can i drive it and see/feel power loss,
can I?
asking net bunny's this (blind as bats)
is "OVER THE TOP" no?
so here , ill toss the dice for you
and guess gross misfiring.
ever get a tuneup this decade, if not bingo , no?

and the others...

link even has the 50 cause list, to show the futility of guessing!
we do 1 to 10 tests. and find it.
for sure.

as you can see EFI systems are complex.
gue$$ is not only expensive but can net you 2 problems easy.

1996 Jeep cold start heater location

It likely has EFI (electronic fuel injection) and an idle air control valve that regulate idle speed. They can get gummed and fail to have a fast idle when cold, or get stuck the other way, and have a too fast idle all the or regularly take its time slowing down after you take your foot off the gas. An engine temp sensor can also cause a lingering high idle if it reports the engine as still being cold after warm up.

How can i minimize the fuel consumption of my jeep 2000 cherouki laredo 6 cylinders ?

There are several things you can do. Make sure the engine is in good tune, replace the air filter, Air the tires up to 34 pounds air pressure to lessen the rolling resistance, How you drive is most important. Take off from traffic light and stop signs slowly. accelerate steady, don't be in a hurry to reach cruising speed, unless, of course, you are merging with fast traffic. Anticipate stops. Start slowing down sooner when coming to a stop sign or traffic signal. Coast on the downhill streets, and use the cruise control as much as possible. Don't waste gas warming up your vehicle in cold weather. It will warm up quickly while you are driving. Any time spent idling is zero miles per gallon.

When started cold, I have to hold pedal at fast idle until motors warms up at least 5 mins. or it will stall. When engine is hot, i have no problem. Distibutor, plugs, wires are all new. Good compression....

there is a iac valve (idle air control) on the passenger side of the pentium(intake) it bolts on it is long and round has a plug on one end with 2 wires going to it.. if you was to stand on the passenger side of the vehicle looking at the engine it is located directly above the middle cylinder.. it talks to the computer on startup to help speed up the idle on cold start.. can be found at most auto parts stores..

Idles rough and hesitates, check eingine light is on then flashes 6 times it will run if you accelerate fast

HI. This occurrence along with the blinking engine light, will be a strong indication of a severe miss in one or all of the cylinders located on the engine. In order to located the effected cylinder(s), you will need to run the diagnostic scan, asap. The codes given will direct you to the effected cylinder and or failed coil, plug, wire or distributor assembly.

What kind of carb does the 76 c10 4x4 come with need to adjust

mcdevito75 here, The fast idle is needed when the engine is cold to make the air and fuel mixture rich to keep the engine running while cold, the carb. choke doew this with a bi-metalic spring in that balck round box on the side of the carb, a screw also hepls keep the choke closed until warm up, this screw can be adjusted tpo control how tight it holds the choke cloesed, here"s how to adjust this screw to slow fast idle speed, Locate on the carb, where the gas pedal connects, have a friend operate the gas pedal with the engine off, once you locate the linkage, you"ll also see 2 screws with springs around them, 1 is for fast idle the other for regular idle, you want the fast idle screw, notice this screw will lay against and Half moon shaped tab, while the other screw lays against a shaft, you need the screw that lays against the half moon shaped tab. Start the engine and step on the gas pedal slightly and relaease, at the screw that lays against this half moon, simply turn it counter clockwise or toward you just 1 2 or 3 turns very slowly, you'll hear the fast idle come down but you don"t want the fast idle to low, listen to the engine very carefully, slow it down just a bit, it should still race though but not out of control. Of course for a full carb, adjustment the shop should handle that., but this info will help.

Noise at shut down

The noise is caused by the engine running on after the ignition is shut off. It makes noise because the pistons are rattling in the cylinders from incorrect timing. This has nothing to do with the mechanical or electronic timing of the engine. The engine runs on either because of hot glowing carbon deposits in the cylinder head or because the engine was shut down when it was running too fast. Sometimes the carbon can be literally blown out by running the engine at high rpm for a short time. Put it in second gear and run it for a couple of miles on the highway. If this does not work the heads will have to be removed and the carbon cleaned out manually. The shut down when running too fast problem can be caused by the idle being set too high or by shutting the engine off before it has reached idle speed. If you can adjust the idle speed try reducing it. If not always hesitate before shutting the engine down to let it reach idle speed. Good Luck!

Try to locate a vacumme leak,or you may need to either free up the throttle position senor with penatrateing oil or have it replaced. You may need to get the codes read if these don't work.
