Question about 1994 Buick LeSabre
First disconnect the negative battery cable, then locate the belt tension pulley, you will have to release the pressure to remove the belt. Be sure to sketch a picture of the belt route if there isn't one in your engine compartment. After you have the negative battery cable unhooked and the belt off, remove the big red wire going to the back of the alternator. Make sure that the big nut against the alternator doesn't more while your disconnecting the wire. After this or if there isn't enough room to take wire off, go ahead and remove the bolts holding the alternator to the engine, or the mounting brackets that it bolts to. Now your ready to unhook the plug in the back of the alternator, if you haven't already. And your done. Hope this helps!

It does actually sound like it could be your ignition module. If this is overheating, it would cause the engine to randomly shut off while driving. You can find this part located directly beneath the coil packs up top towards the front of the engine.
