How does the hub body pull out of the hub ? i removed the spindle snap ring & the hob lock ring, whats next ? Thanks

    1996 ford f 250 4x4, 7.5L front hub body removal. i have removed the spindle snap ring & the outer body lock ring, the body won't slide off.how does the hub body come out so i can pull the rest of the hub off ? (replacing rotors)

Trying to get lock ring out from holding bearing in hub spindle area


You need to have a pair of snap ring pliers & squeeze the snap ring that is holding the bearing in out. The snap ring is a circular clip with 2 eyelets on the end where the "C" part is. It should pop out & chances are that the clip is rusty & that's what's holding it in. If that doesn't work try some haevy duty lubricant, wd40, pb blaster....let sit overnight & try again

Warn Hubs Installation
A truck or SUV with a four-wheel drive suspension uses locking hubs on the front wheels to engage or disengage the front axle shafts from the hubs. This way, you can drive the truck normally with just rear-wheel drive, or engage four-wheel drive mode when you want to drive off-road. These hubs can wear out, and one improvement is to install a set of Warn hubs. Installing a set of Warn hubs takes about an hour.
1.Park the truck and put on the parking brake. Lift the front of the truck with the jack and put the jack stands under the front axle. Take off the front wheels with the tire iron and put them to the side.
2.Disengage the locking hubs using your hands by turning the knob on the hubs. Remove the snap rings holding the hub locks in place with the snap-ring pliers. Pull the hub off the axle.
3.Install the lock ring wheel from the Warn hub kit in the axle with the factory snap ring and the snap-ring pliers.
4.Make sure the Warn locking cap dial is turned to the "Free' position. Install the locking cap onto the lock ring wheel and hub body with a hex-head key. Reinstall the front wheels with the tire iron and lower the vehicle off the jack stands with the jack.

How do you remove the Hub and Rotor on a 97' F250 with Auto 4 wheel drive? I can not get the rotor to come off. I know that the hub must come with it. However, I am not sure what I have not removed in...

  1. Remove the lock ring seated in the groove of the front disc brake hub and rotor (1102).

  1. Remove the hub body assembly from the front disc brake hub and rotor. If the body is difficult to remove, install two capscrews and pull the body assembly out of the front disc brake hub and rotor.

Installation
  1. NOTE: Do not pack the hublock body assembly or cap with grease. Excessive grease can cause excessive dialing effort and hub failure.

    Follow removal procedure in reverse order.
  1. Tighten three Torx® head capscrews to 4-6 Nm (35-53 lb-in).

Servicing front hubs


Automatic Locking Hub

  1. Shift transfer lever to the ``2H'' position, then move vehicle forward and rearward approximately three feet.
  2. Raise and support vehicle, then remove wheel and tire assemblies.
  3. Disconnect brake hose from caliper.
  4. Remove caliper locking bolt.
  5. Rotate pad assembly upward then remove pad retaining clip and caliper assembly
  6. Remove brake pad support bracket.
  7. Remove hub cap retaining bolts, then the hub cap, Fig. 15.
  8. Remove housing assembly, snap ring and shims.
  9. Remove drive clutch assembly, inner cam and lock washer.
  10. Using tool J-36827 or equivalent, remove hub nut.
  11. Remove hub and disc assembly.Manual Locking Hub

    1. Shift transfer lever to the ``2H'' position and set free wheeling hub into Free position.
    2. Raise and support vehicle, then remove wheel and tire assemblies.
    3. Disconnect brake hose from caliper.
    4. Remove caliper locking bolt.
    5. Rotate pad assembly upward then remove pad retaining clip and caliper assembly
    6. Remove brake pad support bracket.

How to remove routers for a for bronco 85 302 full sized


Removing rotors.

1. Jack up, put on jack stands and remove tire (obviously)
2. Remove caliper
3. Remove bolts holding locking hub body to hub
4. Remove snap ring from end of axle, Remove hub retainer ring from ID of wheel hub. Use a small screwdriver or pick to start it out of the groove. Remove the hub body
5. Remove the outer bearing lock nut, lock washer and the inner adjusting nut
You need the special socket for this OTC #7158 or similar
6. Remove the outer bearing and then the hub
7. To separate the rotor from the hub, use a soft faced hammer to drive the studs out
8. Turn the hub over and set the new rotor in place. Put the studs back in.
9. I will usually use an air hammer to drive the studs back in. Alternating in a circular pattern. If you don't have access, you can use a large diameter punch or another hammer on the back of the studs.
10. Now would be a good time to repack the bearings and replace the wheel seals. Pull the spindles and check the bearings and seals in the back of them. If they are not rusted, slab some grease on them and put back together.
11. Install the hub and rotor assy, and the outer bearing and bearing adjustment nut.

Hey um.. we ave to remove our hub but the lock system on the 1981 ford bronco manual but we cant get it off any ideas


Jack the vehicle up and use a jack stand to support the axle lifted. I f you have disc brakes remove the loaded caliper now.Remove the manual locking hub by removing the allen head bolts. Once the locking hub is removed look on the very edge on the inside of the hub and you will see a small metal snap ring. Use a hooked shaped metal awl to hook the ring and pull out and around the ring gently. When you get it to where you can hold it with your fingers grab it and remove it so it doesn't jump out of the hub and fly off somewhere so you can't find it.
Then you will see a big nut on the spindle. Bend the locking ring tabs back so you can place a socket on the nut to loosen it and remove it. Then remove the locking ring from the spindle by pulling it towards you. Then use the socket to loosen and remove the next nut. Then the hub ready to remove. Make sure you replace the inner wheel seal before you place the hub back onto the spindle. Just reassemble the hub in the reverse of what I have told you here. A piece of cake. Anyone can do this if you follow the directions. Good luck.

Front brake rotor on 1992 Ford Ranger 4wd with auto lock in


With Automatic Locking Hubs
  1. Raise the vehicle and install safety stands.
  2. Remove the wheel lugnuts and the wheel and tire assembly.
  3. Remove the retainer washers from the lugnut studs. Remove the automatic locking hub assembly from the spindle.
  4. Remove the snap ring from the end of the spindle shaft.
  5. Remove the axle shaft spacer
  6. Being careful not to damage the plastic moving cam or thrust spacers, pull cam assembly off the wheel bearing adjusting nut and remove the two plastic thrust spacers from the adjusting nut. CAUTION: Do not pry on the plastic cam or thrust spacers during removal. Prying may damage the cam or spacers.
  7. Using a magnet, remove the locking key. NOTE: If required, rotate the adjusting nut slightly to relieve pressure against the locking key, before the key can be removed. CAUTION: To prevent damage to the spindle threads, look into the spindle keyway under the adjusting nut and remove the separate locking key before removing the adjusting nut.
  8. Loosen the wheel bearing adjusting nut from the spindle using a 2-3/8 inch Hex Locknut Wrench T70T-4252-B or equivalent.
  9. While rotating the hub and rotor assembly, tighten the wheel bearing adjusting nut to 47 Nm (35 ft lb) to seat the bearings. Spin the rotor and back off the nut one-quarter turn (90 degrees).
  10. Retighten the adjusting nut to 1.8 Nm (16 in lb) using a torque wrench.
  11. Align the closest lug in the wheel bearing adjusting nut with the center of the spindle keyway slot. Advance the nut to the next lug if required. Install the separate locking key in the spindle keyway under the adjusting nut. WARNING: Extreme care must be taken when aligning the spindle nut adjustment lug with the center of the spindle keyway slot to prevent damage to the separate locking key. The wheel and tire assembly may come off while the vehicle is in motion if the key is damaged.
  12. Install the two thrust spacers and push or press the cam assembly onto the locknut by lining up the key in the fixed cam with the spindle keyway. CAUTION: Extreme care must be taken when aligning the fixed cam key with the spindle keyway to prevent damage to the fixed cam.
  13. Install the axle shaft spacer.
  14. Clip the snap ring onto the end of the spindle shaft.
  15. Install the automatic locking hub assembly over the spindle by lining up the three hub assembly legs with three pockets in cam assembly. Install the retainer washers.
  16. Install the wheel and tire assembly. Install and tighten lugnuts to 135 Nm (100 ft lb).
  17. Make sure the final end play of the wheel on the spindle is 0.00-0.08 mm (0.000-0.003 inch). the maximum torque to rotate the hub is 2.8 Nm (25 in lb).

I just tried to replace the front rotors on my 1996 nissian pathfinder, but couldn't figure out how to remove the wheel bearing (or is it the hub?). What do I have to do get the rotor off?


- disconnect ABS sensor and move away to protect from damage
- remove brake caliper assy.
- remove hub cap
- remove snap ring w/tool
- remove lock washer
- remove wheel bearing lock nut (tool J36001)
- pull off wheel hub & wheel bearing (do not drop it!)
- rotor is attached to hub.
