Question about Nissan Titan

2 Answers

Intermittent problem with starting the vehicle. Sometimes it will start and run fine, no problem at all. Then the next time , it will not start. The starter turns the engine and all electrical guages seem to be working fine, the radio and lights all work correctly. At first I suspected a fuel problem, but you can smell fuel as though the engine is flooding. Now I am suspecting an electrical issue. The engine will "try" to start but then will misfire and lug untill it dies, then will not fire at all.

This is a 2004 Nissan Titan 2wd with 5.6 liter v8 gas engine. I have used a diagnosing tool on this vehicle after the problem had occured once and no codes were showing at the time. Of course, at the time, everything was working ok. Now the problem has returned and seems to be permanent since it will not start at all now.I am in the process at this time of borrowing the diagnostic tool again, so I can try it again.

I tried the code reader on myNissan Titan. All of the registers show to be ok except for the oxygen sensors. The indicator kept flashing and the display indicated it was reading but no codes were displayed and after about 45 minutes it never showed "done". Still no closer to a solution.

When this happens see if you are getting spark to the cylinders. You can pull out the high tension wires at the end where it goes to the plugs, pot it over the engine block and see if you are getting spark. Do this for each of the cylinders. You should get a blue arc of electricity form. It may be a bad high tension wire or a bad spark plug.
It can also just be the MAF sensor if you have the EFI engine already, a good spray on the intake of tuner cleaner would help. For carb engines, you can spray it as well or you can use carb cleaners.
For fuel injected engines, if you can have a scanner connected to the car to retrieve some error from the computer it would help accurately identify the issue. Some shops would let you borrow their scanners like autozone.
Starting the engine takes a lot out of the battery, you battery may be going bad or your alternator is not charging it well. If your have the issue, try jump starting the car by connecting a jumper cable to another car that is idling. If it starts then it is a weak battery. If you have a voltmeter measure the battery it should be at least 12.7v and when idling you should get 13v up to 14v without the electrical on and should not drop to 12v when you have them on otherwise it is not charging.

Please send me back the engine type and m.y. (made year) of the car.
I suspect the immobilizer electronic system of the car. This is an electronic anti-theft system of the car. When the key chip is recognized by the transponder antenna fitted on the ignition barrel, the signal will be send to the immobilizer electronic unit, which electronically unlock the Engine Control Module (ECM) and authorizes the start of the engine.
I suggest you to access the ECM using suitable diagnostic equipment connected to the data link connector of the car in order to pull out all DTC (Diagnostic Trouble Codes) memored.

Check and replace if necessary the Crankshaft Position (CKP) sensor.

I'm looking forward to hearing you after ECM scan. Good Luck!

2000 jeep Cherokee sometimes runs fine shut it off wont start but turns over fine later it will start

Ok. You didn't say what size engine was in the Jeep, but based on your problem, I'd bet its the 2.5L 4 cylinder. They had a classic issue with intermittent failure of the crankshaft sensor. This will cause the vehicle to just shut down without any other indications, Sometimes it will restart immediately, sometimes it can take minutes to hours to restart. The sensor is easy to replace and not very expensive. It is located on the drivers side of the transmission bell housing.

Hyundai Accent 1.5 Diesel. Intermittent problem with starting. Sometimes starts and runs fine. However sometimes on starting car will not run above 750 rpm and throws out HUGE clouds of black smoke. ...

it sounds like a glow plug issue. perhaps a bad glow plug relay. I would think its the relay if the problem comes and goes. If it were a bad glow plug the problem would be constant. check for volts at the glow plugs next time the car acts up. If you find no volts, tap on the glow plug relay next time you turn the key on. This may cause it to activate. if so then replace relay

Car will not start-sometimes. Very intermittent problem.Battery is fully charged and lights turn on but it won't turn over.

next time this happens locate your starter and tap it with a hammer while someone is trying to start the care, (watch out for the fan or any moving parts) if this fixes it you need a new starter.

96 voyager stalls won't turn over after some time it goes

1- under the hood their is a two relays Fuel pump and engine cut off. locate both relays. Next time the vehicle will not start have someone inside the vehicle turn the key to start and if feel with your fingers the top of the relay and listen for the CLICK. It is possible that one of the relays is sticky. I would just replacement as they are only 10-12 bucks from most dealers and auto parts stores. If this does corrected the problem next time the vehicle does not start bang the gas tank with a sometime and try it again. If it starts after banging then you fuel pump motor is sticking
