Question about 1999 Pontiac Grand Prix

2 Answers

(1999 pontiac grand prix 3.1L v6) I inquired about a vibrating engine and someone told me my spark plugs might not be tight enough or something like that, so I checked all 6 plugs I made sure they were gapped correctly, and all of that good stuff, but my engine is still vibrating kinda, could an old fuel filter be the reason for it?

Take your car to a dark garage. With it running, open the hood and watch form sparks. You could have a wire or coil shooting spark to the wrong place.

probably didn't connect the tacho wire to the right side of the coil for the first problem
because the engine was replaced it is possible that a sensor wire to a wheel for the traction light was damaged /disconnected

Removing Plug Wires from '02 Pontiac Grand Prix, 3.8 Liter V6

often times the connection inside the plug boot gets corroded and it's almost impossible to remove the wires with out damage. when this happens I gennerally replace the wires anyway this saves you problems in the long run . the sparkplug wire removalk pliers are a good investment however they are only as good if the boots themselves are not siezed up on the plugs. I have had this happen alot over the 20 years i been working on vehicles. I usually just twist and pull on the boots till they come off and not worry about damaging them because they should get replaced anyway the new plug wires have a antiseize lubricant to keep from this happening in the future

How do i change the back spark plugs on a 1999 grand prix 3.8 v6

Just a tight situation. Small arms help. Best access is from drivers side reaching down between firewall and engine. You will have to find and follow a plug wire one at a time, twist and pull off. ( careful wires if old will break off and a new set will be needed). Using same technique install the spark plug socket on the plug and appropriate extensions to get a good working clearance to loosen plug. Reinstall new plug in reverse order after checking gap. Plugs are in at an angles. You can see them if you really lean in and look down behind engine. It will just be a trial and error on gaining access and changing the plugs one at a time. A plug socket, a 2 inch extension and a 3/8 drive ratchet should do. Don't scrimp on cheap plugs. Good luck

My car loses power sometimes and I can have the pedal on the floor. What causes this? I have new spark plugs and wires, fresh air filter good engine oil life. (1999 pontiac grand prix 3.1 v6)

Could be many things but,i would put my money on a weak fuel pump.Check your fuel pressure it should be 41-47 psi with key on engine off.If its not within these specs replace pump and filter.

(1999 pontiac grand prix 3100 v6) when I turn my wheel, rather left or right I hear a moaning. Noise and its very annoying, help me!

Check the power steering fluid, have a helper turn the wheel and look under the hood and see if the power steering pump is making noise, check the P/S belt to make sure it's tight.

Sounds like it is misfiring.
Try changing the spark plugs and you MUST run premium fuel.

I have a 97 pontiac grand prix with a 3800 v6 non cupercharged engine. Service engine light came on so i changed spark plugs and wires with oem parts. Now it is hesitating and running rough with service...

You need to read the codes. Get an OBD2 code scanner from your local auto parts store,, then read the code stored. Then you will have a better idea what is going on.
