Question about 2000 Subaru Legacy

1 Answer

I changed my oil last night with my boy friend who does frequent oil changes. Afterwords, my transmission started shifting extremely hard and late. Please help. I do not believe he drained the tranny fluid. and ive never had trouble with my transmission before this oil change... I can not find the transmission fluid dipstick either to check the levels.. this is a 2000 subaru legacy. thanks!

Most late model transmissions are electronically controlled. Make sure that all wiring to the transmission is plugged in. Possible a connection was disturbed while you were working.

E: subaru legacy transmission dipstick Transmission dip stick is behind the engine in front of driver side firewall. Move a few hoses out of the way, look down and you'll see it has a yellow top.
Other side (passenger) lower down yet, again move a few hoses aside, yellow top handle, you'll find the shorter differential dip stick.
In either case, if your gaze reaches the ground, you've gone too far.

My car not shift gare automatically and shift gare 3,4second late

Sounds like the gears inside the transmision are starting to break apart inside, Not much u can do but things you can try....

cheapest: fluid and filter, and throw in a bottle of lucas oil for transmissions, this will settle this down some and the lucas oil help for smoother shift

more expensive: fluid flush at a shop, this will do the same thing as a fluid change, but it changes all of the fluid, where as a regular fluid change only gets about 3/4 new

most expensive, get a rebuild, ultimately you will have to replace this transmission in the future, you can try the other steps first and they may help for a while but once a transmission starts going downhill you can slow it down but you cant stop it

2001 Dodge Grand Caravan. has been making a loud whining noise for about a week. started slipping last night. seems to get worse when going from a complete stop and when shifting into gears. other than...

MOST LIKELY HAS A PLUGGED TRANSMISSION FILTER.
TORQUE CONVERTOR CLUTCH FAILURE COMMON.
CHANGE TRANSMISSION FILTER AND ROAD TEST.
IF NOISE IS GONE AND RUNS NORMALLY, CHANGE TORQUE CONVERTOR AND RESEAL TRANSMISSION.

Transmission slipping

Did you check the trans oil level. When you changed
the RADIATOR you will loose some trans oil.
If the transmission oil was low when you changed
the radiator it's lower now. Check it now.
Now, if thats not the problem. With that many miles
have you changed the trans oil lately theirs a filter
above the trans oil pan that may be pluged up change
it and the oil. Also, buy a can of trans X it's the only fix
in a can stuff I"LL use.

1999 saturn shifting hard what do i do boys

Check the transmission fluid level and condition. Make sure the level is correct, if it is then it may be time for the transmission for service. The transmission service time is every 30,000 miles, and if it has not been serviced the Transmission line pressure solenoid could be gummed up with dirt. Have the transmission fluid flush and the transmission oil filter replaced and hope that helps. Hard shifting is a sign of fluid restriction in the valve body in the transmission and will lead to a costly transmission failure. Good luck and keep me posted, the other thing to that would give you a hard shift is a bad throttle position sensor. But that should have given a check engine or service engine light on.
