Question about 2001 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD

1 Answer

Hard starting Chev 2500HD 8.1 L

Hot or cold hard starting. Appears to be fuel system drys out.
Temp fix:
Crank, stop, key off, crank, stop, key off, crank and starts up every time.
My guess:
Fuel pressure drops off?
Diagnoses to now:
added FI cleaner twice, no fix
Question:
How hard is it to replace Fuel Injector? I am guessing there is only one on this model? Located at air intake to engine?
Suggestions appreciated.

I'm having the same problem on a 2001 silverado 2500HD with 8.1L. I'm guessing it is a stuck injector or the fuel pump check valve is leaking back. I don't need to crank the engine. Just turn it on for four sec turn it off turn it on for four sec and it starts right up. The fuel pump is designed to only run a few seconds when you turn it on. I'm not having any other problems since I replaced the crankshaft and camshaft sensors.

I have had the same problem.the solution is the fuel pump! i know you got pressure and it runs so how can it be the fuel pump? the pump is losing its prime you are getting pressure just no volume thats why its crank off crank off the system is priming itself again kinda like a weedeater or similar motor fuel is there just not enough of it to the injector To check this hook a pressure gauge turn on key turn off key release fuel should be plenty but if tis just a few drops thats it hope this helps

Excessive crank time on cold engine start

The way the newer systems work the engine spins at least a few turns while the computer checks everything for correct readings. In the old days it was "cool" to be able to reach in and "bump" the key and have the car start. It meant you had the car tuned perfectly. Now the vehicle computer will not turn fuel on until it is happy with readings. One trick you can try is turn key to full on position and let it sit for a second or two before turning key the rest of the way to crank. This allows the system a second to do it's checking without wasting power cranking. Had Nissan that was just like this. Just wait a few beats before turn to full crank. You can also listen for fuel pump whine in that few seconds, and then hopefully whine to stop when pressure hits full. If whine never stops fuel pump may be getting weak. If you can get access to higher end code reader you can also check for "pending" codes that may be showing up sometimes (holding start up) but then working (so engine finally fires).

Hard Start When Cold 01 Bucik Regal

Did you check the fuel pump relay ?
You would need to use a fuel pressure gauge and check pressure before you crank the engine.
When you turn the key switch on, the pump relay is supposed to provide power for 3 seconds to boost fuel pressure.
If fuel pressure is ok, the coolant temp sensor could be telling the computer the engine is warmer than it really is.

Van runs good then stalls out. then hard to start. If i let it sit for 5 minutes it starts again no problem. Then stalls again shortly there after.

This sounds like a failing camshaft position sensor and weak crank shaft sensor .When crank shaft sensor gets weak it will stop functioning. When crank shaft sensor stops working then ECM will not control fuel system and the fuel will stop flowing. And this can cause the problem. When crank shaft sensor gets heated it will stop working, but when the car shuts off, the sensor gets cold and works for few minutes and sensor again gets hot and it stalls. ---------- Get the crank shaft sensor tested on your Chevrolet venture. ---------- There are many other possibilities for this stalling problem, but crank shaft problem is indicating in your case. I have a 2002 chev silverado 2500HD duramax 4x4, The truck starts only when given a shot of quick start in the airbox. After it runs great you can shut it off then re start it fine. It will not start...

You need new glow plugs. Im guessing you live somewhere kind of cold maybe. It starts just fine after running because the motor is already warm. Quick start will work.....or at least it did for me until I used one mornig and went to crank and BOOM. It blew my air filter case to pieces and caught the filter on fire. Starting fluid is not meant for diesel motors. If you cant afford new glow plugs what worked for me is turn on the key all the way but dont crank wait 10 sec then repeat a few times and it should crank unless its really cold out or the plugs are really bad. Trust me thats what it is. I replaced mine and now It cranks right up even when its super cold.

At cold ambient temperature (-20C) after sitting for 8 hours or so, my 2004 Silverado will crank, start, run for half a minute, and stall. A new effort will only crank, but not start. Anybody have this...

have someone check the reading on the engine coolant temp switch,if your switch is telling the computer it is 50 degrees the engine will start it lean, when you really need rich, like an old fashion choke.

1999 Chevy S10 cranks but wont start

A very common problem on the 99 S10 is a leaky fuel pressure regulator in the intake plenum. What happens is when the truck sits for a few hours or more the regulator leaks all of the fuel in the fuel injection system into the intake air plenum. This does 2 things, 1 it has no fuel pressure when starting and 2 it floods the air intake with raw fuel. Sometimes if you turn the key on wait 3 seconds then turn key off then turn key back on and just turn key to crank starter for a split second and wait 3 seconds.do this 3 times to repressurize fuel system then crank to start(you will hear fuel pump buzz each time you do this.also you may have leaky fuel injectors. Try to crank engine with the gas pedel to the floor. This will tell the computer to stop spraying fuel trhough the injectors and it will start. Joe ASE Master Tech
