Torque on head bolts 3.0

This must be done in a specific sequence In THE ORDER described. It is important to know that Ford used a torque to yield tightening process. This effectively stretches the bolt to keep it tensioned. So removing these bolts means you have to throw them away...they cannot be re-used. ALWAYS use new bolts.

Follow the sequence shown in the diagram below and perform these 5 steps EXACTLY (yes, you do two quarter turns at the end):

1. Tighten all bolts to 37 lbs-ft

2. Loosen the bolts one full turn

3. Now torque all bolts to 22 lbs-ft

4. Tighten all bolts an additional 1/4 turn (90 degrees)

5. Tighten all bolts another 1/4 turn (90 degrees)
