The speedometer cable needs to be oiled it is hanging inside of housing and when it comes loose it makes the speedometer jump up and down from cable hanging up inside of housing.

When I'm driving the speedometer needle bounces back and forth and when it does that it start jerking and acting like it don't want to go what is causing that

You don't say what make, model or year your vehicle is so it could be a number of things. If it is a newer model vehicle there is a sensor on the engine going bad. Take it to your local mechanic if you have one and if you don't, take it to the dealership and have it diagnosed there. If it is an older vehicle there is a cable running from the speedometer input on your dashboard to the driver front wheel area and it measures how fast the wheel is turning and through some gearing tells you how fast you are going. Check the connection--it may be going bad or it is just loose and needs to be tightened up. Hope these help.

I have a 2008 GMC Yukon XL Denali. I hit a small snow drift yesterday and now my speedometer stopped working, my RPMS are bouncing, oil pressure is bouncing, temp is bouncing and vehicle wont shift out of...

Vehicle speed sensor, wheel speed sensor, your VSS operates you MPH and tells the trans how fast you are going and when to shift, it is telling the trans that your not moving so why would it shift? Next your ABS wheel speed sensor tell the car what wheel is moving at what speed to activate traction control and abs systems both are very sensitive and easy to break

Speedometer bounces from current speed down to zero (where it sometimes sticks)

It won't be a cable, as it's impossible for a cable driven speedo to perform this way.
It's an electronic speedo.

Check and/or replace the speedo sensor in the gearbox housing.

My speedometer quit working so I can't tell how fast I am going or how many miles I have driven.

According to the parts book, you should have a speed sensor in the transmission that replaces the speedo cable.
The sensor could be faulty, or the speedometer in the dash.

Speedometer

Vehicle speed sensor is probably bad. If you go somewhere like AutoZone they can scan the codes set by the engine light and tell you what it is. Is it also shifting a little irratic, that would also be a speed sensor.

The speedometer in my 2002 chevy prizm stopped working. From what I can tell that is the only issue. I'm not sure if it is a fuse or a relay or something different altogether. It does tend to just...

Sounds like a broken speedometer cable. The bounce around erratically, because the cable is still connected under the hood and still spinning. Even though its broken the two ends make contact and still causes some movement of the speedometer.

Usually runs from the transmission through the firewall and into the back of the gauge cluster.

Speedmeter is bouncing up and down. Then will stop for a while then continues, then stops. OBD2 reader put out code P0503

Code is for vehicle speed sensor. It is what tells your speedometer how fast you are going. When they fail it comes up with that code & your speedometer wont function correctly. Will need to replace vehicle speed sensor, should solve your problem.
