Dextron plus 4 should be used. 4 quarts for service, 8.6 quarts for total refill. Some models have to be checked in neutral not park. Read dipstick to know for sure.

sounds like you've been really trying, you say there is no power at the light bulb socket and you checked your switch at the transmission. did you check for power at the transmission. this will tell you if the problem is at the front of the truck or in the rear.

Is your trans an auto trans? If so, you should have the 45rfe trans which would take 5-7 quarts to refill after a filter change.

Use only Chrysler or Valvoline ATF+4 fluid.

I would pickup a plastic manual pump syphon hose, insert it in the transmission fill tube and pump out the appropriate amount. You should be able to buy on cheaply at most auto parts or home improvement stores.

1989 dakota,does not shift into overdrive,push button on or off makes no difference,

if trans fluid is not burnt,the problem is the govnor pressure/shift solenoid on valve body in trans

the trans has a serious failure, that is why the metal, it can be overhauled for less than a replacement
