Question about 2006 Volkswagen Passat

2 Answers

I just purchased a 2006 VW Passat 2.0T. When I opened the lid on the gas tank area, there is a sticker indicating that they prefer I use "unleaded premium, 91 octane". Can I use ethanol 89 octane without hurting anything?

Yes you can use a lower octane they sagest a higher octane so you wont have pre ignition knock
you can use a octane booster to help but try it with out first if all is ok than no problem if not you
can always put the octane boost in at any time.

hope this helps you

Yes you can use 89 octane, but at first it may seem like the car is not running right. don't worry the car is okay it is that the 89 is thicker than the 91. just give it some time.

I have a 2006 VW Passat 2.0T. My check Engine light is on and when it was scanned I got two codes 171 & 455. What does this mean? I do notice that when I fill up at the gas station, my car acts like it...

Engine is running lean and there is a leak in the evap system, most likely due to purge valve stuck open. This is causing the engine to flood after a fill up. This is a known problem with the 06 Passat. See post here:

We lost the plastic "insert" in the gas cap area on our 2006 VW Jetta when we fueled up the first time and now it won't open when I pull the gascap release. Now what?

You may have to buy a new plastic piece, and try and force the gas tank door open. Thats probably your only choice since that plastic piece is needed to get it open. Goodluck!

Hello how are you? I was wondering if you could assist/guide me?

There is a electric solenoid to pull the cable removing the pin to open the lid when the button at the driver door is activated. But this is known for unreliable due to the design. In order to release the lid manually, you can pull the trim panel in the trunk at the right side to get the mechanism releasing the cable. Back yard mechanics should be able to replace the solenoid, but instead let them fabricate a handle at the luggage area to manually release the lid. This will be cheaper and more reliable.

Do you know how to open the gas tank door on a 1992 vw passat

Grab the door and pull it open. There is no trick, have had a few Passats, no levers in any of them.

New battery in 03 VW Passat, engine turns but will not start.

Possible flooding, cold weather can freez open injectors causing them to leak into the cylinders. Press the gass pedal all the way to the floor and crank the engine for no more than 60 seconds. The cylinders will clear themselves allowing proper mix of air/fuel and should start easy. If that does not solve please specify if the engine is 1.8l or 2.8l.
