SOURCE: 2002 reduced engine power light

You have some kind of ECU problem. You will need to hook to the diagnostic port to find the problem. Your vehicle has gone into limp mode. This enables the vehicle to run, but at a diminished level until you can seek help for the problem. Do not continue to drive it this way as you may cause damage to the engine depending on the nature of the problem.

SOURCE: MY cruise control on my 03 trailblazer ls works intermittingly

short , loose connection or relay --most likely ---those little green light flicker or come on when generally there is an intermittent short, loose connection or a relay or fuse going to fail soon
and nothing works without a good ground ---one could check if the correct voltage is reaching the cruise contol system and go from there

Just my 2 cents --wiggle the connections --gently ---the cruise control is a complicated sysytem somewhat --you may need another symptom to appear to narrow this down more
but then again --I hate Tow trucks it's a GM --SELL IT Buy a foreign car don't go to ford either

a friend of mine once told me --a 30+yrGM master mechanic that thanks to GM's faulty wiring harnesses and stuff HE will NOT ever want for work and Ford isn't any better --
Get the Toyota if you can that is --unless you are a GM Fan
then sorry my bad no insult intended --

The fan clutch could be the problem. It could be locked up, that would cause a roar noise or it could be free wheeling, meaning no cooling of the radiator.

P1484

The Reduced Power could be associated with the FAN CLUTCH not operating correctly. This happened to one of my customer's, and it turned off the Check Engine light... I know it is strange but the Clutch was the issue with his and it was the same code. Many people think you need to have a Special tool but if you have a Hammer and a Screwdriver, I can teach you a trick. Hit the Large NUT (Fairly Hard like you were going to hammer a 16 penny nail) on the FLAT SURFACE, rotate it 180 degrees and it the other side repeat and then it will spin off CCW.

Engine reduced power

Reduced power can be a multitude of things. Find out what code is present by using a scanner. The cruise control WILL NOT work if the check engine light is on. Once the check engine light is cleared, the cruise control will work again.

I replaced clutch fan 6 weeks ago, this seemed to solve reduced engine power, now its happening again. shows code p1484

The code is for the clutch circuit, the fan speed is not what the computer says it should be. Could be wiring or relay problems in addition to the clutch.

My cruise control does not work

Normally when this happens, your computer has a stored or active check engine light code. If there is a code present, your computer will disable the cruise control feature until the check engine light or code is cleared.

Check engine light on and reduced engine power i didnt warm my car up could that be the problem once i got home and cut the motor off and restated it the power came back and reduced engine light went off...

Take your TB to Autozone or a parts store that offers a free check engine light check. All they do is tell you what code your check engine light is throwing. Get this code, and we can help from there.

Eng. code P1484

P1484 - Cooling Fan System Performance

06-06-2005, 10:51 PMHere's what the GM Manual says about this code:

The cooling fan relay sends a pulse width modulation (PWM) signal of 12-14 volts to the cooling fan clutch through the cooling fan clutch supply voltage circuit. The powertrain control module (PCM) uses this PWM signal in order to control the speed of the cooling fan clutch. The signal controls the position of the oil control valve inside the cooling fan clutch. If the cooling fan RPM is different than the PCM is expecting, DTC P1484 will set. The actual cooling fan RPM vs the desired cooling fan RPM is not always exactly the same. There can be up to an 800-RPM difference.

The engine is running.
The system voltage is greater than 8.5 volts.
The intake air temperature (IAT) is greater than -7°C (19°F).
DTCs P1481 and P1482 are not set.
The engine speed is less than 3200 RPM.
The engine speed is not changing more than 250 RPM for 5 seconds.
Fan command is greater than 0%.

The maximum allowable error of 1000 RPM in the cooling fan speed occurs for 100 seconds.
The PCM detects that the cooling fan clutch is locked up.

The Reduced Engine Power indicator illuminates only if the PCM detects that the cooling fan clutch is locked up.
The PCM illuminates the malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) during the second consecutive trip in which the diagnostic test has been run and failed.
The PCM will store the conditions as Freeze Frame/Failure Records data.
The PCM commands the cooling fan clutch to 100%.

Important
Follow this procedure in order to clear DTC P1484 after completing a repair.

Use the Clear DTC Information function on the scan tool.
Perform an ignition key cycle.
The PCM turns OFF the MIL after the third consecutive trip that the diagnostic test has run and passed.

The history DTC will clear after 40 consecutive warm-up cycles have occurred without a malfunction.

An inline connector could cause an intermittent DTC. Ensure to test for poor connections and pin retention at all inline connectors. Refer to system schematics for connector and locations.
If the condition is not present, refer to Testing for Intermittent and Poor Connections in Wiring Systems.

Disconnect the harness connector of the cooling fan clutch from the shroud. Inspect the exposed wires between the harness connector and the tubing.
If DTCs P1484 and P0113 are set, and the weather conditions are cold, the cooling fan code may be false. Clear DTC P1484, and after an IAT sensor check, allow the DTC to reset .

I'd say that 'fan clutch is faulty' is your problem, based on the information you gave. Thank you for using Fixya and good luck

Reduce engine light comes on with a/c use.

Most likely it is the fan clutch as it is computer controlled. I have had 2 in the shop this year with the same problem. To be sure, have someone check the codes before you start spending your hard earned dollars.

I have a service engine soon light and the code that appeared when check is 1481, do you know what this means?

Service Engine Soon (SES) or Check Engine Light On, DTC P0480, P0526/P1481/P1484 Set (Replace Engine Cooling Fan Wiring Harness) #05-06-02-012B - (10/19/2006)

Models:2004-2006 Buick Rainier
2002-2006 Chevrolet TrailBlazer, TrailBlazer EXT
2002-2006 GMC Envoy, Envoy XL,

Some customers may comment that the Service Engine Soon (SES) or Check Engine light is illuminated. This condition may be intermittent and upon investigation, the technician may find either DTC P0480, P0526, P1481 or P1484 set.

This condition may be caused by the cooling fan harness chaffing against the plastic guide it routes through. This contact may damage the insulation of the wires enclosed in that harness.

Replace the wire harness:
Part Number 89024920 Description Harness Assembly, Engine Cooling Fan Wiring

Good luck and keep me posed.
