Question about Hyundai Elantra

1 Answer

My car is leaking power stearing fluid and makes a sqeal when ever I start the car and turn out of my parking spot. Im about to make a long distance trip from St.Catharines to Montreal if I keep topping up the fluid will it make the trip there and back? Until I can get it repaired or should it be repaired before I leave? Am I putting myself and passengers at risk driving with a minor leak?

How often do you have to top up the power steering.if its once a week or two weeks then you should be all right.just keep an eye on the fluid level.if your topping it up every couple of days then have the leak fixed before you go.remember the oil is spraying back onto the underside of the car.

My car is making whinning high pitch sounds when im driving then it will stop and eventually come back, is it the power stearing pump or the power stearing hose leaking

You most likely have a leak. You shouldn't ever have to add power steering fluid. It is best to get it checked out and repaired while the leak is small. If you wait, the leak will get worse and the oil gets dumped on hoses, belts, wiring harnesses, computer sensors, etc. and can cause severe damage to all of these items, as well as rubber engine mounts and suspension parts. To properly maintain your vehicle, NO fluid leak should EVER be "tolerated". Fluid leaks (of all types) are the leading cause of sending cars to the scrap yard way before their time.
