I bought a 1992 Honda Accord recently. How do I know if the timing belt needs to be changed

Hello and welcome to FixYa!

If there are cracks on the timing belt then it's time for replacement. I strongly suggest that you have it replace to ensure security. After that, take note of the timing belt replacement and you need to replace it every 100K kilometers.

Hope this helps and thank you for using FixYa! Have a good one!

Does a 1992 Honda Accord have a timing chain or a timing belt?

Honda uses a timing belt. It should be changed every 60,000 miles.

Honda accord exi 1992. i was driving about 100kph when all the power suddenly shut down and i wasn't able to start it again and there is no spark on the ignition coil

If it sounds kind of like a sewing machine when you try and start it, the timing belt has probably broken and the cylinder head may have to come to replace bent valves before a new belt can be put on. This is unfortunately a common problem on older Hondas if the belt is not changed on time.

1992 Honda Prelude Timing Belt Diagram

There's no such thing as a timing belt diagram.

Do you mean to say the "Procedure" for changing a timing belt in a 92 Prelude?

By asking such a question I can only interpret it as a clear indication that you've never changed a timing belt before.

If this is true, then you don't want to start out or practice on your own car.

Get the car to a pro and have the job done right.

If not true (and you've changed timing belt's in the past)

Then give me the engine size and I'll post the:

"PROCEDURE" for changing the belt in a few hours.

HOW TO CHANGE THE WATER PUMP

There isn't really an easy way, as the water pump is driven by the timing belt, requiring removal of the timing covers, timing belt etc to replace. This is definitely a job for a mechanic, or at least a skilled handyman with a lot of experience with timing belt replacement. The timing belt and tensioner will need to be replaced at the same time, but at least then you know that it will not need to done again for 100,000 kms (60,000 miles).
