I have a 1998 ford escort sohc the car nocks as if there were a pin hammer hitting the top of it any ideas

It's either a perfect match or not. And if not (because of something minor like a transaxle mount being in the wrong place) you cannot attempt to use it. So ask at a salvage yard if their interchange source shows it can be interchanged. I am guessing it will be a match, but you should find out beforehand.

Hi there? check the oil level. if there is no oil in the engine, it will make it nock especially at the top end.
If the oil level is ok then start the car and remove the oil top up lead and check if there's any oil coming up to the top of the engine. it should pray oil out of the hole. good luck..
