Question about 2005 Volvo S60

1 Answer

After much work being done on my S60 2005 volvo the same problems still exist. I have discovered that to prevent stalling I need to pull out the key turn it over and restart the motor. I have already just spent 3000.00 and they tell me it needs another 6500. worth of work. This car has only 100,000 km on it.

Volvo 960 wagon stall

if it is lacking power and stalls at stops, it may be a bad fuel filter. when car is off, the dirt inside the filter drops to the bottom. but as soon as its started it rises up. that is what usually causes a car to stall. when stopped. if the car bogs down on hills and it was fine before, then its the fuel filter. there are many things to make a car stall at stops, but check the fuel filter first then go from there if problem still exists. and check all vacuum lines in engine compartment. there may be a leak. clean throttle body out if needed. good-day! check and or replace the Idle air control. (IAC) it may be sticking.

Replaced tie rod ends, lower ball joints and brake rotors after having this done now having problems with the front end jerks back and forth briefly and this problem did not exist before they worked o

Did they do an alignment after they preformed this work, or did they tell you that you needed to have 1 done? After that much work on your front end, an alignment would need to be done. If they didn't preform one then you should have it done. That could be the source of your problem. Also check your tire wear and inflation other possible factors. If they did their job right those should be the only things it could be, as long as it wasn't a pre-existing condition.

If you have not already replaced the idle control valve then remove it and soak it in brake cleaner for about 30 minutes to remove any oil residue which may prevent it from operating correctly. Before you refit it dry it fully with a clean lint free cloth.

Volvo S60 Hesitation

Had a similar problem recently where I would press the accelerator almost to the floor before I got a response and when I ran the A/C it was worse. Also my car kept stalling out when at idle. Volvo dealerships are extremely expensive. I took mine to a Bosch service center (more of a mom & pop shop) and the price was more reasonable. The drivability (sp?) problem was the rear oxygen sensor for me. I also had a fuel pressure sensor and MAP (labeled as pressure sensor from Volvo) sensor replaced. The parts are expensive, but it fixed my issue. There is a front and rear oxygen sensor so it could be either. The parts are $219 each. The fuel pressure and MAP sensor are cheaper, but only by about $40. They are not hard to replace though. Once I had the rear oxygen sensor replaced the car was back to normal. I have a 2003 S60 with 97K miles.

My Volvo 960 stalls while driving

You should start by checking the diagnostic trouble codes. Here are some directions!

These are fairly reliable, with few stalling issues, but they used to have problems with the coolant temperature sensors, and the intake manifold gasket leaks, both of which could cause your problem.

After you read the codes, or have it done for you, post the codes and I can direct you further.

91 volvo 240 - keeps stalling out, shakes a lot when idling

My 1990 240DL was doing the same thing and it turned out to be the fuel pressure regulator. It, unfortunatley, is a shop repair. $117 for the part and $150 for labor. It runs fine now.
